    Welcome!
I'm in Ontario Canada, we get hit with the salt and brine heavily too. I sprayed everything that would even consider rusting or corroding. Springs included. The product sets up into a waxy hardish grease like substance. It's really sticky, I doubt it'll come off anything unless you were to physically remove it using mineral spirits. It's really good stuff.

What he said. About the only thing that would take it off would be chemicals, a constant or continuous liquid spray, constant friction or rubbing, and elbow grease. It’s not like a hard candy or rubber shell. Coated flexing parts won’t crack the coating. It’s kinda like a bees wax coating that way but even better.

Can anyone speak to the effects of spraying cosmoline over rusty stuff? Will the metal continue to rust under it, rust worse when coated, or will the rust slow down (like when using fluid film)?

I can’t. I’d guess the severity of the rust would be the first question though.

Rust never sleeps. It has to be mechanically or chemically removed. The oxidation process will continue unless removed.

Spraying cosmoline over rust to encapsulate it works as well as anything as long as it stays put. Idk if I'd do it on a truck chassis, but it's been working ok on my 48'' mower deck thats over 50 years old. I find I have to keep up with it every year. Cosmoline seems to adhere a lot better on brand new clean steel.

That’s the feedback I was looking for thanks! Getting ready to do my annual rust proofing on my 2nd gen and am trying to pinpoint where I’m using cosmoline and where I’m using fluid film.

Finished spraying my truck today. Used 6 cans total, 2.5 cans previously on the inner facing side of the frame and cross members and 2.5 cans today on the outer facing side of the frame, radius arms and rear axle, and the last can inside the frame rails using a 24” tube and 360* nozzle on the end. It worked good but was a little wonky as the tube wanted to stay coiled up.

I just sprayed a light coat to not get runs or look blotchy.

I’m gonna let it sit and dry/cure and wash the truck this evening or in the morning just in case any over spray got on the paint. I did it in my shop with no fans running so don’t think any did, but don’t want to risk it. Also not gonna drive it for a few days to let it cure really good before any road dust hits it.

Looks like the amber rp342 is on backorder and I didn’t feel like waiting for it to ship so I shot my frame with CRCs heavy duty corrosion inhibitor. From what I read and watched on YouTube it’s highly similar to rp342. Was easier to find locally although the only place that had it for next day pickup was Oreilly autoparts. Seems like these two products are both harder to find immediately.

Will see how it holds up. Will shoot the interior of the frame with corrosion X HD later. Prefer non-drying liquid coats for inside of frames.

Don't get cosmoline spray over the fluid flim....you will end up with an oily mess that just dips. A friend of mine did the same on his tacoma. The two had a reaction that never dried.

Hang the tube out in the sun for an afternoon and it will straighten out, you can put a small weight on the end to speed it up.

I’m going to do cosmolime first and on all the “seem” areas. Then fluid film on the hidden areas (inside frame rails, rockers). It’s not a new truck and I’ve been diligently working on rust remediation this year prior to the upcoming winter salt.

You can try that, but just from experience of seeing the two when they mix together isn't a good sight. I bought an extension wand for the cosmoline off eBay years ago in which I was able to squirt inside those boxed sections, and get the top of the frame good. To this day the frame has zero rust anywhere.

Appreciate the feedback. I’m going to experiment with the two today on some sheet metal seeing what happens. I’ll report back findings.

I put a cosmoline type product (Amsoil HD metal protector) on my truck, let it "dry" overnight and then sprayed Fluid Film over it and it worked fine.

It was spraying cosmoline over the fluid flim that had already been on there which created the oily mess on a buddies tacoma frame.

It’s thoroughly coated I went over it twice. Probably just the lighting and the frame has also had a lot of fab work done so it’s been repainted in places.
