Mine idles at 700-800 rpm once warmed up. After the battery is disconnected for a while, it will idle at around 1000 rpm for a bit until it settles back down.
If you are idling high all the time, I would check the two jam nuts on the throttle cable that attach the cable to the throttle body. If they are too far to the end of the threads, it adds more tension to the cable than needed; therefore making your truck idle at a higher RPM.

    That's pretty high

I had a high idle problem with my '02 a while ago, took it to a shop and they told me I needed a whole new wiring harness. Once the engine got hot it would start stalling, but would idle at about 1500rpm until then. I took it back home, disconnected the battery for about 8 hours, let the computer reset itself. It started and idled fine the next morning.

Turns out that I just loaded the truck with too much weight and it caused the computer to freak out, raising the idle to compensate for the 1000kg in the bed

Check for vacuum leaks and an over-tightened throttle cable, but you should be idling at about 700 (no lights, A/C off, etc) with a hot engine.
