You could replace the gas struts with different ones, but you'd have to spec and source them yourself.

Get some really small gauge wire cable, some clamps, make to desired length, and incorporate it to fit next to your struts, using the same mounting as the struts.

Question to the lucky owners ...

With the Adventure, is there a lack of visibility especially when in Reverse? I like the durability of the Adventure, but would like the visibility of the Sport.

    Thank You

I don't have any issues, I also have little bubble mirrors on my side view mirrors. I've had some on every car I've owned, makes looking at that blind spot easier and quicker. And the backup camera obviously helps in reverse.

    Adding to this.

Imo I don’t think the lack of side windows makes it any less visible than a sport or any other cap/canopy out there. The less light shinning in may have some darker effects obviously but truly don’t think it impacts greatly- as any cap on the back makes looking out tge small rear taco window (not a picture window) and then through any canopy sliding window a bit difficult and adds additional blind spots. I also have upgraded side mirrors (spotters) that make everything visible on the sides so the only time I’m truly looking out the back is at a stop watching for anybody coming in hot so I can anticipate and move.

I have a sport, and I'm pretty sure I never look through the side windows when backing up or any other time I'm driving. I think all canopies are equal in this regard. You lose some visibility, but that's just the tradeoff for the additional secured, dry, cargo space.

The caps that I've seen in the past have always had side windows (e.g. Leer). I guess I just assumed it was for improved visibility during driving.

    Thank You

Took a photo of my Sport cap from the driver's seat.

    20231003_172957.jpg

As you can see, there's not much visibility out the side. And what you can see isn't of much use.

It's completely impractical to try and see out the driver's side cap window.

Thanks for the photo. Very helpful.

I agree that looking out the driver-side canopy window is impractical. I'm not sure my neck can twist that way.

I can see out the passenger side canopy side-window in your picture, but in your opinion this doesn't offer anything useful.

I have not seen a SmartCap in person. Is the glass on the 'Sport' model thick as automotive glass or is it more like glass found on other canopies (Leer, etc.).

    Thanks Again.

You're in luck, I happen to have 2 spare side panels in my storage room. The panels have a metal frame with 3/16" glass. I suspect this is the same as a standard canopy glass... but I'm doubtful that "automotive" glass is any thicker.

I agree. I doubt that automotive window glass is much thicker than that.

    Thanks Again.

How's the rust after 2 full winters? Im going back and forth on a fiberglass top or one of these for my 2nd gen but the $1k premium over fiberglass has me debating. I'm on the coast of VA but my truck sees the beach maybe 50 times a year for fishing. My truck does look cleaner underneath than any 8yr old truck from up north where they salt roads, but things that can rust will rust from the beach abuse.

I have no issues with water getting in unless I'm park in such a way rain blows in-between the tail gate cracks. That rarely happens and is minimal when it does.

    Hey all,
Thinking/ planning on getting the Adventure cap in the spring but wanted to ask a couple follow up question after reading through all 47 pages (seriously, tons of good info in here)
Is RSI any closer to updating the locks to be able to open from inside?
For those with dogs who ride in the bed, any heat/ cold concerns when travelling?
Follow up to the above, I planned on some DIY insulation if heat IS a concern, so does anyone have experience adding insulation? (was thinking of using window cover material, the silver stuff with 3M tape)

As far as the locks are concerned the last I heard from a dealer was they were close to production but found another issue or something and are going back to fix it. Don't believe any estimates they (RSI) provide as they have been giving dates for a little over 2 years now and have missed every mark. That being said I did find a video published on the Viemo page show the installation steps for swapping latches with the new ones. So they close enough to produce an instruction video about it.

@OffroadAlliance.com Do you have a source for the rear brake light?

My RSI Smart Cap is three years old, and the rear brake light needs to be replaced after Texas Hail. Trying to source a new one.
