I came across this forum today because I was researching the part as I suspect mine was just recently stolen. Seeing that others feel the car wash could've done it makes me rethink my suspicions, but you never know. What I also discovered is that there is an apparent problem with this particular part for 2008-2011 Tacoma's. After seeing how much it costs to replace the moulding, I will definitely be calling the dealership tomorrow to see if my extended warranty will cover it, but wanted to share this information with everyone else who has experienced an issue.

    Hope this is helpful!

I know this is an old thread, but I read it as my 09 dbl cab just had the left drip molding fly off on the freeway. I went to my local dealership (Toyota San Diego if you are around here), and told them what happened. Even though I am out of warranty they said there was a quality program that had been in effect. They replaced both of them free of charge right there on the spot (after I was a little persistent that they fix them). They said they redesigned the molding and it wouldn't happen again. Long story short: check with your local dealer's service center on this issue before buying the part, as it may get taken care of for free...

Are you not concerned about the water that must have been in the roof? Because the same thing just happened to me I have a 2013 that's five months old and am concerned because it obviously will start to rust from the inside out and will not become apparent until a few years down the road. I don't know what recourse to take with the dealer as the roof is structural and cannot be replaced. Fixing the seal will not fix the damage.

I know this is an old subject, but this is what I found when I Googled it, trying to figure out the name... So I was wiping down my truck I noticed mine was missing, on the passenger side. Not sure if it came off or somebody took it!?

Passenger side came off partially on my 2009 while on the freeway at 65 mph. I heard it thumping on the roof. Took it off and the dealer repalced with a new one. A couple months later I was off loading my ATV from a trailer and noticed some small dents. I took it back to the dealer and they fixed the dents. They were only visible in the right light looking straight dwon the roof. I still think the dealer swhould have caught them when they replaced the rubber. I kept the original one in case it happened again out of warranty.

So warranty may cover this? I have a 14'. Some friends I had as passengers mentioned a few weeks ago on the freeway they mentioned thet thouhgt I ran something over. They say something fly up in the air from the corner of their eye. Hope this is the case. I hope I'm not getting jacked for this part. Headed to the dealer this week!

Went in to a Toyota Dealership and explained what happened and it is covered in the warranty. He also mentioned it was pretty common; "it's attached by some adhesive and small cheap little clips. Part should be in within two days.

You're half way to a factory roof rack. Might as well go all the way ;)

I just had this happen on my 2016, the dealer told me that it happens... I said shouldn't it be glued down, and he told me that if it came off while on the highway they would do something. He also said he would forget he heard about it happening in a car wash like I did something wrong.

Watching this one. I'm missing mine too.

Called the dealer today and it's $152 to buy. Was hoping they would have extras sitting around because they install roof racks and they need to replace them.

Let me know if you find a cheaper supplier.
