Rubicon Trail Taco Adventures

I get long stares from the built-up Jeepers on the trail when they see a late model Taco going everywhere they can go... I just tell them, "It's just as capable as a Jeep, only difference is... It's dependable, reliable, will go over 250,000+ miles and is still worth damn near as much as you paid for it in 5 years..."!

I’m probably going to hurt some feelings, but the Rubicon is a mere shadow of what it was forty years ago when I first did it. I drove a stock CJ. We broke stuff. But we fixed it and moved on.

 

Agreed, but it's only a 30-40 minute drive from my front door... Soooo there's that

 

You are indeed lucky. I had to drive the CJ from L A. Don’t remember seeing trailer queens back then.

I've never been on the Rubicon, but always hoped I might get the chance at some point.

 

Make the effort. The scenery is fantastic. But don’t go alone. There’s still plenty of opportunities for breakdowns. It’s not a trail you want to do without someone whose done it before.

 

which side did you start from?

 

Loon Lake. Jeep was a stock CJ-8, except the tires were 31x10.50x15's Cepek Ground Hawgs. And yes I did have to use a couple of by passes and had help on others. I went with three other Jeeps. The owners had done the trail several times. Of the seven of us on that trip I'm the last of the Mohicans.

 

And before that it was a road that Model T's drove on.

 

This is fuckin awesome, I plan to have mine out there next spring/summer.

 

Dude. Sick rig. I'm on my way there but just starting the marathon. Will let you know when the 5.29s, the lift, the lockers, the bead locks and the meats are on it as that will be the final push.

Wow, what an amazing looking truck. Seriously like what you've done to it. What bug guard it that? I've never seen one with a light bar in it.

 

What size tires and lift do you have? I’ve got a stock 2015 TRD OR. Currently looking at winch bumpers for it before I do some off roading.
