    Update 9/28/16

Truck is completely fixed now, no more rumble strip. There is no public released TSB, but internally, field techs do have a TSB. Both leave springs were replaced and a steering damper was added.

    Updated part numbers:
    48210-04840 Spring Assy, RR RH
    48220-04480 Spring Assy, RR LH
    45713-35040 Damper, Steering SHA

So long story short, I've had my issues w/my truck. Had several things done and been really happy with service. Dropped the truck off for the rumble strip confirmation (for the 3rd time all documented) and a possible fix that's available according to the new service manager.

Received a phone call today saying they are replacing the leafs w/new updated part numbers and a steering damper, so that is awesome. I'll post TSB info when I get it and try to get the number to post. Last time I posted info like this for the trans flash, I got flamed for not having the number, but oh well, believe me or not, that's your choice.

On the ride along he noticed the odd shift flaring while the truck was cold I've had post-TSB and said they would look at that since it was in the shop. Well, under the former service manager, I was told the fluid was checked and 1/2 quart low when the TSB was performed. Today, the new service manager called and said it was a quart and a half low, which is what caused the severe flaring Post-TSB and is now fixed. What a hell of a deal, lol. I even have it documented that it was manually checked and fluid was added when the TSB was done. Bahaha....finally progress I guess :)

Please follow up with the TSB. I developed the same rumble on decel issue recently after getting the differential howl and having the assembly replaced only a month ago.

Current info updated. Truck is now rumble strip free and has correct pinion angle.

I believe you! I've been thinking the rumble noise comes from the rear leafs after driving one with a very slight rumble with 6k miles.

Glad you got yous square off, it never should have happened.

    Cheers!

Nice, glad they got it situated for you. I noticed my shifting has been delayed when cold so I'm pretty sure mine is low. Going to take it in soon. Figured I wasn't going to bother having them check it since I was in a rush to take delivery and I work for the auto group just at a different store. It was fine when I test drive it and for the first few days. Now that the temp has dropped in the morning I'm noticing it.

Did you have problems with the springs, or did they want to change them just for the rumble strip vibration?

I had the exact same repair done to my truck. It made an obvious improvement but did not completely fix the problem for me. The service department agrees that it is still there but Toyota Corp. calls it characteristic of the vehicle.

I don't believe the springs are a cure for all, but maybe for a good many.
I still think the rear engine/transmission mount could be a culprit as well.

I haven't checked the howl. I was all in feeling for vibrations mode and didn't drive past 45 mph. Tomorrow I'll have about 3 miles of highway time during my daily commute and check for that.

No other problems, just the vibration. These do look much different, especially the overload part of the spring. I think they are trying the 2 birds 1 stone theory of trying to address the noise as well.......unless these start squeaking. It does ride a little different, maybe not as stiff in the rear, but that could all be in my head.

Any suggestions on how to recreate the rumble? I get it often but not always and have trouble making it happen. Which will be important since the dealer will need to have it happen for them and my dealer SUUUUCKS.

Mine happened every time I slowed. 2.5 degrees out of spec is pretty big. Yours may not be out as far, which is why it's harder to make it happen. I could drive 15 mph with the cruise on and it would do it the entire time, so it's not just on decel. That's when it's noticed most since we don't tool along at that speed often.

Information moment: These are the leaf springs that trucks produced from June, 2016 use (firm ride). The steering shake damper is sourced from a 2010-2016 4Runner.

So trucks built after June already have these springs?

When I was looking up part numbers, it seemed like every model has a different part number.
What are the differences, if any? Some say "firm"; maybe, same spring and different durometer or index for the bushings?
If differences do exist, I wonder why just the one set of leafs to fix all?

Good point, but I'm not sure. I do have the OR with tow package, so that could be part of the reason. It rides better to be honest. It's no Lexus, but not as rigid where I feel every little bump.

This is awesome, thanks for posting! Truck has been at the dealer for 2 weeks diagnosing the vibration. Went away after rear driveshaft was removed, but regional tech drove and deemed normal. Dealer was not aware of any updated leaf spring and I couldn't provide any information until now!

I took mine in for the 5000 mile service and mentioned about the vibration at 20mph when braking. I figured he'd just blow me off with the "characteristic of the truck" line... but no! He said he was calling corporate. They said remove front drive shaft and drive, if it doesn't go away replace the leaf springs and add steering wheel damper. In two days they had the parts and installed. It's 99% percent better but still barely there. I wouldn't be able to tell if it didn't do it before. Just feels like the truck is downshifting or something at 20mph now. I thought he had mentioned that all the 2017's will be getting the new parts too. Looks like they're starting to acknowledge it and will fix if needed...
