I hope this is the right place to post this. Sorry if it isn't.

I have a little bit of rust around my fuel door and I really want to fix it before it becomes a bigger problem. But I don't want to paint the whole side of the truck. Has anyone been able to repair something like this and either match it up or paint it a different colour.

Please let me know your thoughts

How big is the rust spot? Is it a rust bubble or just a little dot of rust?

It's a rust bubble along the bottom of the fuel door. Three to four inches long.

I will try and take a picture tomorrow.

Forgot about the picture and now the truck is in with Toyota getting frame sprayed until Saturday.

Has anyone fixed an area and just repainted that area. I'm not looking for perfection. Was also thinking of painting it black on some kind of pattern in that area. Just not sure how it might look. Probably bad.

J.C. why did you wait so long to address it? Looks like you've been whacking it with the gas nozzle! If you want it to look like new you're going have to take it to a body shop.

I bought this truck a month ago. It was like that when I got it.

I am going to take it to a body shop but was wondering more about after its done and not really wanting to paint the whole side of the box.

I think I found an idea.

Looks good with that vinyl wrap! You could just sand, prime, and paint it. Just to stop the rust, then vinyl wrap it.

I just found that photo yesterday. I really like the look of the vynil wrap. I'm looking Into the vynil wrap and if not to pricey this will most likely be the route I take.

Rust is like cancer, very difficult to ressect and get 100% of it. Looks like someone was slamming it with the gas nossel then kept painting over it.
You can try to sand it down and repaint it, but I would not vinyl wrap it for 3-6 mos to allow any possible rerust to occur. Chances are it will rust again and it will look horrendous rusting under a wrap.

Body work is expensive and sucks. Next time I'd research repairs before buying a vehicle with serious body problems. Just so you know how much to get off the value of the truck.

I've got some issues too around the rear window, really afraid to pull it apart to find out what's their. Had a friend years ago had a Chevy Vega. It was a common issue with this, so he would smear bath caulk on rust spots to slow the process down.
