My money would be on the window having been replaced sometime over the years, and the installers gouged the crap out of the window frame--through the paint and primer--and left it bare when the new window went. I've seen it a half-dozen plus times over the years...

How is it a Toyota issue? that back glass could of been taken out before and the rust issue could of started then and you would never of known it unless your the original owner??

No, but rust is. Doesnt matter where it's occurring, Toyota has more rust issues than other manufacturers.

My truck which was undercoated when it was two weeks old, and had undercoating touch ups every year, has some mild rust on it already...I drive a 13. Granted I live in a rust state, but still.

Shit happens, and I genuinely feel bad for the OP. But the idea that rust will never form in a "non-rust state" is laughable.

Sorry, call me a fanboy if you wish, but I really wouldn't expect Toyota to pay if it was my truck.

Maybe growing up in the salt belt made me less sensitive to rust than some. Dad had an F150 that the panels above the wheel wells rusted through in less than 10 years. He fiberglassed the floors on the 12 year old jeep I drove in high school because they rusted through. He is now oiling the shit out of the frame on his 05 Silverado because if it gets much rustier it won't pass inspection. This isn't a Toyota fan boy thing, this is a quit being such a princess thing.

I think this topic is somewhat ridiculous. Now the secondary air pump issue on the 2012s is a design flaw that a lawyer needs to take up with toyota.

Why? Members are debating a topic. It hasn't gotten nasty, at least not for this forum. Isn't that the purpose here? Or do all threads with someone critical of Toyota somehow violate the rules?

Not a lick of rust anywhere on my 07 Taco, and it has been near the Gulf of Mexico since new.

Even my 02 Tundra has zero rust... I take that back, the bed bolts have surface rust where the Rhino liner wore off.

To me it looks like the window frame is moving slightly in the body opening, wore off a small area of paint and that rusted and then dripped down the seam below the window.

OP is this happening on both lower corners of the window?

Does this suck? Hell yes. But I can still see Toyota denying it because it's been 10 years and they had no control over how the truck was kept. Have a body shop look at it.

I'm gonna agree with this, I had a 2000 with cab rust right above the windshield. A previous owner had the windshield replaced and somebody did a shitty job.

That's the same as replacing windshields and rear windows on most all modern cars--Alfredo seems to be more concerned about scratching the paint than most installers--probably because his name is on the sign and he honestly cares about doing it right...

This. Window tint shop managed to break my windshield and had the windshield replaced, probably on the cheap, a couple years later I noticed rust bubbling in the A pillar channel and took it to a body out of fear the scratched the paint removing the glass. Sure enough was scratched up in side and they didn't bother to paint it.

And right after I got it fixed, I was replacing the wipers, the wiper arm slipped out of my fingers after I got the old wiper off and cracked my windshield... FML.
