Thanks OP for the post. I’d never have noticed!
I had some 1/2” heater hose, and a 1/2” brass pex jointer laying around, which also worked with ease. I’m hoping the long hose won’t slowly freeze up and get blocked in the winter. Will be something to keep an eye on. (Crankcase vents in small plane engines will freeze up in winter here, I’m thinking same thing may happen with this) but I guess the a/c won’t be on much at -40 ;)

Anyone do this experience a winter yet? Do you leave this on all year or take it off? Any blockage? I'm considering removing this mod during the winter months. Thoughts?

I’m sure if you don’t use the brass fitting you will not have issues with freezing. Just slide the 5/8 tube over the oem and you’re good to go.

I left mine on all winter, no problems here. I even took it off about a month ago just to visually check, it was clear as it was as when I put it on originally.

Its next to the exhaust, I wouldn't think freezing would be an issue.

I guess that would give the water somewhere to go if the hose did get clogged, However then i
It is close to the exhaust so I can see where warmth from that would keep the top from freezing, however frames get super cold and so I figured it could. But I've resolved to just leave it as is and check it occasionally

If it is cold enough to freeze the atmospheric humidity will be very low and not much (if any) water should be draining. A/C probably does not even cycle when it is under 40 degrees outside. Used to be the case with auto defrost systems.

Can someone check my routing of the heater hose? I'm "mechaniclly challenged" and tend to tear stuff up. Thanks in advance

Looks ok to me, just make sure it doesn't touch the exhaust. Best to keep it as far away as possible

Was changing the oil on my 99 Tacoma the other night, and as I was laying on my back looking up into the engine bay with a flashlight, I noticed the A/C drain tube is exactly like it is on my 2017. Pretty funny apparently Toyota has been doing it that way for quite awhile. And fwiw, my 99 pretty much has no rust anywhere for the most part

Ummmmm, don’t you live in Arizona? You’re probably not going to see much rust no matter what!

Originally from the bay area. Bought the '99 Taco from a dude in Oakland back in January 2006. I've been in Arizona since 2013 though, so the truck has spent most of its life in CA.

The point of my post was to let everyone who has never had a 1st gen know that the design on our 3rd gens is not a new design by Toyota. The fact that my '99 has no rust is just a bonus :p

Did mine this morning. Pic1 shows where I attached the 5/8 heater hose with minimal bend and secured it with a zip tie. Pic2 shows where it enters and exits the frame crossmember.Pic3 is a snapshot of where it exits and trimmed it down to 1/4". I had O'Reilly auto parts cut me 28 inches and it cost me about $4 bucks.

You could just zip tie it to the crossmember like I did on mine (see post #338) to keep it far away from the exhaust. Other than that it looks great.

I did mine with a piece of 1/2" copper as a coupling between to hoses. I used a clear vinyl tubing for the hose. Salute to the first Guy who did this!
