I am amazed that that level of rust was there for just after 7 months from an ac drain. What will winter bring ?
    Would undercoating have helped ???

I've done this mod too, and for winter I'm gonna fluid film the crap out of the underside before bad weather sets in.

    Rather than undercoat ?
Rather than fluid film once a year ?

Several people on here don't recommend it because undercoats tend to flake off after a while and rust, water and salt stuff accelerates and hides rust. I also think it may void warranty. Fluid film can be cleaned off at the end of the season.

How often do you do the fluid film ?
I have had jeeps for 25 years (original jeeps not chryslers) that didn't show that level of rust.

This will be my first time using it, so from what I gathered from others on here, it may depend on where you live. For me, just once should last me all winter, but somewhere like the rust belt might need to do it a couple of times. Others on this forum said 4 cans do the entire truck just fine. It's safe for plastics and rubber, and can be removed when no longer needed.

I think if you follow the OP's recommendation of using rust prevention paint and then following up with an undercoat product, it should seal the area sufficiently.

I am worried about the rest of the under body now, not just the ac drain outlet.

The frame is already coated. The same procedure would hold true for other areas of the frame. I used this method on my "02 Ford ranger and never had an issue. Call it a maintenance thing.

While rigging this up on my truck, I was thinking it was a strange place that rusted in the pictures that @Uptown2k posted. The A/C drip is much further forward (and up) from the location shown in pics. The only thing I could think is that while driving the water from the drip hit the frame and traveled down to the rust spot.

I did this mod early on just for peace of mind since I use the AC year round. Simple and effective!

That's exactly what happens it runs down and gathers there while parked also doesn't have to be driving

Thanks for the heads up OP, I didn't get rust on my frame but there were some deposits.

Went to NAPA to buy the hose and clamp, it was $6 all in. I routed my hose down the frame instead, I get kind of antsy when I put hoses or wiring near moving parts. Tested it on and off road, so far so good.
