I recently purchased a 2010 and today I tried to pull the dipstick out to check the oil. It was stuck in the tube something fierce. I twised and pulled a bunch until it finally came out. The plastic handle looks rusty. Any idea why? Do people have to replace these? Or the tube?

Lube that baby up and throw 'er home! They're a bitch to pull out if you check it every week.

    Well that sucks for him.
If the previous owner did mostly short drives then condensation can build up. I installed a oil catch can and the stuff in there looks like a iced frapuchino . I drain it every other oil change .

just lubricate it when you change your oil and call it a day.
make sure to check oil often too that will keep it healthy.

That oil tube looks a bit corroded. You can either pull it out and clean it up or buy/install a new one. I had a dipstick break off in another vehicle I maintain. You can replace them with a dealer part or check dormanproducts.com for their after-market replacement.

Maybe replace that O-ring on the dipstick as part of the clean up.

ETA: pics show rust on the frame also. I recently had my 2010 frame treated with a rust proofing agent at the dealer and Toyota paid for it. See if they'll take a look at your frame and see what free options you have.

Further down the tube there should be a small bracket that's part of the tube. It will be fastened with a single bolt in most cases. Remove the bolt, then gently wiggle the tube around and pull out by the base further down. There should be a very small gasket on the end of the tube you just pulled out. Clean in place and oil it up a bit or oil it if replacing with a new tube.

Does anyone know what the different suffix on the "same" part means? Example:
