Yea I was wondering that too. I've got oil and WD-40 all over my C/Os. The mavcoat worked pretty good on my smooth body shocks though and I just cleaned them with soap and water.

Last winter I ended up coating them in wd-40 to prevent rust becuase they already had a lot on them. Worked fine I guess. Not rust but not ideal. I bet you could still spray it on there. It may not look pretty though. I'm just waiting until I rebuild mine to clean them and out the mavcoat on.
The mavcoat seems pretty tacky when you first spray it on so it may work on the wd-40.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
WD-40 will cause problems with rubber components later on so I would avoid.

Mild soap and water and soft brush. Then make sure they are dry before applying the MavCoat. Maybe hit them with the leaf blower. :D

I took my bottle of liquid frog lube and rubbed the shock bodies and exposed parts before installing. I usually add to exposed metal on my old truck and it seems to work. This stuff is made for weapons and smells kinda minty.
