And what do you do in this case? Just sand off the rust and re paint it with rustoleum?

I didn't know defying the laws of nature was Toyota's responsibility. I mean serious, metal rusts. There really isn't a whole hell of a lot that can be done about it. It would still take a long time for your frame to rust all the way through so bad you couldn't use your truck.

"NEWS FLASH" Metal rusts people!!! The Tacoma is no better or worse than any other truck on the market. If you live in an area where they is a lot of salt put one the road its going to be more noticable.

Not just Tacoma's but same on all cars. Probably rusted on the first day it rained out of the factory, sitting in the lot.....

The whole thing will eventually surface rust. No biggie. What sucks is when the rust penetrates deep.

Not the same on all cars. My 2005 Nismo Frontier did not have a single speck of rust on the frame. Even the leaf springs were rust free.

If I notice a little surface here and there, I hit it with rustoleum rust converter, then a second coat of flat black.

Rusting suspension is one thing, but I just took off my bumper and found patches of surface rust on the interior of the painted surface (2010, 18,500 miles). That is just pathetic! My 1999 Jeep XJ had 250,000 miles when I got rid of it for the Taco and there was minimal rust on the body. Axles, etc, sure - surface rust, but painted / finished surfaces rusting after only 2 winters is inexcusable. I hate to say it, but I'll be surprised if this Toyota lasts 10 years and 250,000 miles like my Jeep did. Oh yeah, the Jeep was almost $10,000 cheaper too.

Toyota is not the only one. I bought a new 2011 F150 and it had rust on the chrome rear bumper when I drove it off the lot with 6 miles on it.It was delivered from Dearborn to SC and it did get a salt bath on the back of the truck but a brand new truck with at least a dozen rust spots should not happen.I got rid of the Ford after only 4 months and got a Tacoma. If I was going to keep a truck several years and lived in snow county I would give the inside of my rear bumper a good heavy wax job as soon as I got it home before it got dirty.
