Hey all, have any of you WA (Seattle) people ever had issues with frame rust here? Since it doesn't snow here much, I'm debating if it's worth my time to go nuts and spray the frame with fluid film, paint, etc... Thanks!

I can't answer your question, because I am not from there, but spraying your frame can't be bad. It's better to prevent rust than get rust

    I would spray the frame

I have started using Fluid Film the last 2 years and I believe in the product. It's well worth the few hours to do it properly and at a minimum once a year, in the fall before winter. The most important part in my opinion is using the 32" extension wand, that lets you get deep into the front box section of the frame, where the corrosion eats from the inside out.

Thanks for the responses so far. Truck is brand new. If I was still living on the East Coast I'd do it in a heartbeat. Seattle barely snows so was thinking I could get away with being lazy about it. Maybe not then.

If Toyota didn't have the long history of corrosion problems with the Tacoma, I would feel a little different, but I only wish I knew about FF when my frame was still new and would do it in a heartbeat, even if I lived in the Southwest. It takes like I said 2 hours once a year, so there being 8760 hours in a year = 0.023% of your time during the year (0.00023 x 8760 = 2 hours) = well worth the time IMHO.

There is almost no salt use in the NW. Some jurisdictions use a watery brine de-icer, but it's not that common. Usually if you see rot it's from letting mud sit in confined spaces for years. On the wet side of the mountains mud and other debris inside frame rails and body panels is only dry in the summer. The trapped moisture is what causes issues. Keep it clean and you won't have an issue.

I don't do anything to mine. I'm in Vancouver so our climate is pretty much identical. Very little salt use here, typically just a brine solution sprayed on main roads. Normally though, I don't have a vehicle longer than 4 or 5 years, so rust has never been an issue.

That must be nice to have a new vehicle every 4 or 5 years and never have to worry about rust + always having a reliable vehicle. I would prefer doing that if I could afford it.

I would still treat the frame accordingly even if you live in Seattle. I also live in Seattle. Remember prevention is way easier than treatment.

This is no longer true. Starting this year many municipality s are using SALT. Puget sound is covered in salt on icy mornings now. I see the trucks all over.

I've lived in the Seattle area for 40+ years. Rust isn't an issue.
