I have a '98 Tacoma that I purchased in '99 with only 30k miles. Until recently I have loved this truck and haven't had any problems. I discovered the rusted frame a couple years ago when one of the rear shocks literally busted off where the shock is attached to the frame. At the time of the discovery I did a little research only to find out I had supposedly missed out on a recall. I had a guy attempt to repair the spot by means of some creative welding and also welding on a steel plate for reinforcement. This repair only lasted a short time before the shock busted off again. I'm trying to decide if I should get rid of the truck and get what I can out of it, which I know won't be much considering the age and mileage (230,000) of the truck. Or if I should try and replace or repair the frame. Although I will be getting a new vehicle soon, I'm reluctant to get rid of this truck it's a sentimental thing I guess. Any thoughts on my options?
