    Curious--who's that?

My '11 frame still looks flawless so I have done nothing to it.

I do get a "professionnal" rust proof treatment each year by my mechanic guy who use a certified product. If you guys use Fluid Film like the one I have in mind, I would be scared to see it wash out in the kind of weather we have in Canada. I do see a lot of TW members using FF so I guess that it does the job. The treatment I get seems thicker and dust and dirt stick on it and protect it from washing out. I took it all out by myself with the pressure washer to have a new treatment on the frame tomorrow. My mechanic also apply the stuff in rucker (is it well written?), into front and rear fender and all the way under the truck (floor). If we don't do that, rust is getting out pretty fast after a few years.

ya that sounds more like a krown product.

Its much thicker and it grabs onto dirt and keeps it there. The stuff doesn't wash off. its actually really annoying at times when you go to work where it was sprayed. But regardless its great. I get it done each year and buy a separate can as well and drench my coilovers with it. I actually cleaned one off one time when I was working on it and the thing looked brand new after some good cleaning. All the dust and mud etc really cakes into it. But it still has that oil under so nothing rusts.

So I'm thinking krown will be good

Wondering if they used a different treatment on 09 and newer frames. I have a 2015 and fluid film doesn't stick very well, driving through rain it just washed right off. Treated my 2014 f150 and it stayed on that all winter and was still on their.

09+ were made by Metalsa, the company that bought Dana's structural division. Hard saying what they may have done differently.

Mine is all black, just a tiny bit of surface rust on the welds, has all the stickers still on it, etc. And it's a 2011 with 90k on it that has seen several New England winters.

My GF is getting her rust proof treatment tomorrow too at the same place as mine. I'll try to think to ask the name of the product the guy uses.

I agree that it's not nice to work on the truck with that stuff everywhere. I always keep towels close to wipe my hands haha

haha the other day I went to change my air intake, since I have a TDI currently, the air intake I use in the summer would cause problems in the winter from the cold, and when I was changing it I kept getting the shit all over my hands...still not sure how it even got there cause I told Krown not to spray around the engine bay. They do it as a part of their normal spray, like spray the latch and around the fenders but I always tell them not to for that reason but guess they didn't listen.

I should ask that myself haha and today I saw that there is a kinda fume of the stuff on my windshield and side windows... Will ask about that tomorrow too. It's getting cold to wash outside but I guess I'll have to do it because I don't like to have greasy windows and I doesn't wash well with the wipers.

    Just adding my recent observations.

I am waiting on delivery of my new Tacoma, and while looking at a new arrival at my dealer, I climbed underneath. This DCSB4x4TRDOR had just arrived and had been 'prepped' before being pulled in front for me to play with. So, the truck had had the shipping coatings removed and been washed, only hours before my arrival. As I climbed underneath, I observed the nicely painted frame. Black paint, but no wax or similar sealant, as far as I could see. But, and this is the point I'd like to make, many of the welded joints already had spots of red rust forming. From just one wash. Brand new truck with 7 factory miles on it.

My thinking right now is that when I get my truck, before the undercarriage gets crapped up, I am going to spray rattle can rubberized undercoating on every frame weld that I can find. When that cures, hit them with Fluid Film.

    Just my two cents.................................. Frank

Edit: Sorry, thought this was the Third Gen sub-forum.
