    Hello everyone im a new member here and in the market for a 1st gen double cab. Ive found one, but its about 4 hours away. The thing is, I ran the vin through carfax and its originally from massachusetts. It had a recall for the spare tire being rusted, so im guessing the frame might be affected also. I havent asked the dealer how the frame is yet though. Can I get ur guys opinions? Thanks. Heres the link

    Cant really say much from the pics

    It is a TRD (4x4 with rear locker), so thats the best model. It has the SR5 trim package.

    Of course rust on these frames has always been a concern. The place buying it from may not be aware of the inspection. I'm certain that Toyota will still do the inspection, but unsure if they're still replacing frames/buying back the vehicle if it fails.

    Being from the east coast and moving to AZ, it was very likely exposed to lots of salt. It should be inspected. Surface rust is not unusual, so dont bail on it outright due to that. It should be tested.

    Also, being a v6, the timing belt was due to be changed at 60k miles. Since this truck is at 70k, I would guess that it hasn't been done. I believe it runs upwards of $1000 from the dealer.

    Since you do have the VIN, I'd suggest plugging it in at http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home and seeing what dealer maintenance has been done. It should tell you more than the carfax report you received.

    That price seems a bit high.

    I picked up my 2002 with only 33K mi on it and a new frame in 2011 for ~ $4000.00 less than that from a dealer.

    If the truck was inspected for rust before the deadline then your frame is guaranteed for 15 years from the in-service date. Problem is, I'm not sure if you can access the warranty if the vehicle is not registered in one of the listed states.

    I would be careful because the worst frame rust was not often visible; most often the worst rust developed from inside the frame rails. Visual inspection is not appropriate, you need to use a ball peen hammer and go looking for soft spots in key areas that were known to rust through.

    Best of luck.

    Low miles--how many?
    Offer 11K-NO TRADE.
    HELL ==OFFER 10k-GO FROM THERE.
    WHATS THE BLUE BOOK?
    Piss them off--low ball the price--do not believe most of what they tell you==for example--there is someone else looking at the truck.
    Ask them WHY He did not buy--turn the tables on them.
    It appears to be a nice looking truck-GLTU
