My TRD Sport seats are the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned. Unfortunately, 140,000 miles and 9 years of hopping into and out of this truck have worn out the fabric on the bottom cushion (see pic). I'm looking for recommendations to save these great seats...

    1. Shop for used TRD sport seats in better condition.
    2. Buy seat covers. Wet Okole or OEM (I don't like the back sweat that comes with neoprene seats)
    3. Find a guy to reupholster the seat. (is this even a thing?)
    3. Bite the bullet and buy a set of new aftermarket seats. $$$

I’d do seat covers or reupholster. You can even find the OEM seat fabric on eBay, but it’ll likely suffer the same fate.

An oem seat will be expensive and again not solve the underlying issue. And with aftermarket seats you’ll have to make the airbag system happy.

You can get an OEM seat cover and replace it. That's what I'd do. There was a thread on here very similar to this, and the guy went to a local upholstery shop and they fixed it good as new. If you do anything else, youll have to do to whole truck to make it look the same and match.

That is why the first thing I do to any new vehicle I buy is to install seat covers. Then when or if you decide to sell the original seats look as good as new.

@2011Streaker i did not know this. Found one for a lil over 2 bills. Ouch. I still may do it though.

@Pilot Greg replacing the seat cover seems like a daunting task, but it isn't really. I had my front seats out, on a table, and apart in about an hour when i put heat in the front seats. Hog ring pliers was the only thing i needed to buy. I used diagonal cutting pliers to cut the old hog rings out.

Get Katskins. It’s basically a leather OEM look and feel.

thanks @2011Streaker , the auto upholstery looks like the best OEM answer, I'm strangely attached to the seats and the current look. I figure if it took 140k mile to wear out the first time, if I fix it now then it should last another 140k. If its still running at 280k then I won't be too worried about how the seat looks.

In my old 4runner I used the same upholstery guy the dealer used and fixed a split in the leather. My dad also used him later on his F150 cloth seats. He charged about $250 and replaced the fabric on the whole section and matched it 100% to oem. This was the company: http://www.fabrion.net/ . I used a local guy outside of Philly when I did it and he gave me a discount for going to his house to get it done. It looks like it's a franchise though and there might be one wherever you're located.

I would have them reupholstered and then covered. It is definitely still a thing. There’s a local shop here in San Diego that I’ve used a couple times.

Where in SD? I pretty sure I got the same worn through area on my sport diver seat that everyone gets. How good are they at repairing? Cost?

Jim’s Auto Upholstery is Kearny Mesa. They did a great job on a Mustang and Tundra we had. Price was reasonable

Man that sucks. Its a good reminder that I need to buy some covers soon. If you plan to resell at any point, I'd consider springing for new OEM upholstery. Otherwise, you'd probably be happier with the durability of the Okoles in the long run.

Called a local place here in Wilmington and it looks like I'll be getting fresh upholstery for my birthday. They said to expect around $200. Does this sound high?

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
Depends on what "fresh upholstery" actually means I guess. Is that new Toyota seat upholstery, seat covers, or repair the existing damage? Seriously, just curious, $200 sounds cheap for fresh (or new) upholstery. I have a brand new/used (out of my '14 Sport DC - removed at 3k miles) TRD upholstery cloth that is sitting in my basement, minus the headrest cloth. Front and back seats. Not trying to make a sale, but if you do want Toyota TRD cloth, and the $200 local deal is not exactly what you are looking for, IM me and we could work out a deal.

Hopefully, for the $200, you get fresh/new upholstery locally and you walk away happy.

Good luck, keep us posted. Sounds like a good deal.
