Salt or a brine mix they spray which is salt water. It helps melt stuff, including metal on vehicles :D

Salt, sand and liquid brine all of which are slowly destroying my new frame and polluting our aquifers. But it sure is keeping Karen safe in her SUV for those unnecessary runs to Dress Barn..

Arizona used volcanic cylinders until around 2007 when they switched to salt. It makes me not even want to go up to the snow.

Couldn’t agree with this more. The liquid brine and beet juice mixture they use here is a like a chemical burn to frames. The salinity of the aquifers hits dangerous levels during bad winters. The river ecosystem is suffering. As soon as there is a flurry they start laying that shit down like it’s a blizzard.

I’m in Pa, they use salt and brine. Some townships will use cinder. One thing is for certain, we have the worst roads in the country. A blind person knows when you cross a bordering state into Pa. It is literally that bad....and don’t get me started about the gas taxes. :(

Wisconsin here - the very hint of snow brings out the salt and chemicals. Much rather have proper tires and driver education than such destructive remedies for the roadways.

The only salt I’ve driven on was at Speed Week on the flats.

The winter salt and chemicals have been long known to be bad and destructive for the environment, cars and the road infrastructures over time.
Yet, they keep using it because it is cheaper on the short term. When you stop and think about all the damage it does on the long term, it is definitely not cheap

But officials don't want to understand that. What matters is cheaper is better. Not the proper solution that may be more expensive but also more effective. It's like that for any problem actually. Most of the time, it is not the proper solution that is implemented but the cheaper on the short term that is, which eventually results in an uneccessary waste of money but well, this is how our world works nowadays :notsure:

You know, snow is pretty grippy when compared to ice. Why don’t they just spread snow on the roads? :notsure:
