    That's probably a good idea.

The only downside, many bridges and over passes aren't maintained all that well.

New Mexico uses a salt/cinder mix it's a dark red color so you can see where its been used. We have enough clear stretches during the winter to clean off vehicles so it usually doesn't cause major rust problems. Snow in the city might last a day or two on side streets but the main streets get cleared pretty quickly. They never treat or plow the side streets. People who live at higher elevations might have more rust issues just because it snows more and the roads don't melt as fast. I've seen a number of Gen 1 original frames that look really good around here. A lot of people in the cities don't have a clue how to drive in the snow so it's always risky.

One needs to figure in the Cost to run the Electric .

The Electric Company wanted $50,000.00 to run 3 phase 1 mile

Then the cost of the Electric Taxes are High enough

Just passed a truck spraying brine on my way to get some breakfast.... splashing the side of every vehicle passing. I love the midwest, but the salt alone makes me want to move.

While salt can do bad things to your Tacoma, imagine the bad things that will happen to it if they don't use salt.

In Central Oregon, ODOT uses Mag Chloride with an added rust inhibitor. The state limits the use of salt in general.

Gotta think though, without the corrosive materials being spread on the bridges they would need painted less, the steel would last longer, you’re not running plows on the surface creating & expanding potholes, etc.

I would assume the install cost would be offset over time with longevity increases.

You shouldn’t assume. But you are probably right. The only issue is that initial cost is usually higher priority than long term cost. We are all guilty of that.

So far the cinders here in northern California are working really well to slowly chip away the paint from the underside of my cab and my black exhaust tip. The salt they use at higher elevations is also trying it's hardest to cause rust in every little spot without paint. Screw winter road "maintenance" and especially screw all the cinder and salt.

We're sorry you hit that patch of ice on that shaded corner and went in the ditch, a little more to the right and you would have missed that tree completely. Bummer. We just didn't want to be the ones responsible for causing anyone's vehicle to rust. Anyway, we're pretty sure that icy patch will be gone by March so no worries.
