Anybody ever notice that the 03' style tundra access is the same body style ad the new Tacoma access cabs. I just wish they kept the (let yourself in door style with your own outer handle.) And the rear seat was a nice plush one too! I don't even see that it's larger or anything so whyd they go small flap style seats?

The rear doors are the same.. the tundras can't be opened without the front doors open either.. just like the taco.. only difference is the handle is on the outside instead of the inside like the taco.

The 1st gen Tundra weighed 400 lb more than a 2nd gen Taco of equivalent configuration. The weight savings came from somewhere.

Yeah, nobody does find the rear access handles. Lol some of my friends flipped the seat forward like it was a hatchback. :) I didn't realize the tundra rear doors were same function. Thanks guys.

I'm sure the 1st gen Tundra's sheetmetal bed accounts for a good chunk of the 400 lb weight difference, but that's not all.

My buddy has an '03 Tundra and would prefer the inside handles ... they're are a much cleaner look. Aside from that the Tundra's rear seat is much larger ... at 6'1" I can sit in it with some comfort. Only one person, my 16 year old son, has been in my Tacoma access ... for about 5 miles ... the rear deck went in shortly there after.

It's not even close to being the same cab.

The Tundra cab was a bit larger than the Tacoma cab.
I had an 03 (put over 120k on it in less than 3 years).

First thing, the rear seat legroom is comparable, but the rear seat in the Tundra was actually comfortable to sit in if the passenger had their seat forward.
The seatback was at a decent angle, and it was a thick, properly sprung rear seat... not just a thin foam pad over a plastic rear bulkhead cover.

The seating height was taller.... your butt was higher above the floor than the Taco.

Looks wise they are similar, but there's only soo many things you can do with the the back seat of an extended cab truck. Size wise they are not even comparable.

Though I must say, my 2005 Taco has a lot more leg room than my Moms 2003 Sequoia (driver seat to driver seat). Always found that strange.
