I almost got a flat the other day driving on that fresh snow, the edges of the snowflakes were almost able to slice the sidewalls on my duratracs... :p

Ill admit the sidewalls aren't good… but they lasted a hell of a long time considering the amount of abuse I put them through

How many miles have you put on those tires? I only ask because the tires on 4wd vehicles should be within 1/16 inch or so regarding tread wear, and if one is out of spec then it may lead to other problems later:

    http://www.dunntireblog.com/tread-depth-tire-replacement-4wd-awd-vehicles

I picked up a nail near the sidewall about 6 months after I got my truck, but because my tires had already been worn down some (stock rugged fails), I couldn't just replace the punctured tire with the spare and had to get a whole new set of tires. Really it just turned out to be a blessing in disguise I guess.

They have about 32,000 on them.... I understand what your saying there... that's why I'm getting two tires just ones gonna come a few days later then the other so I'm going to have two new ones to keep on the front or rear together

Got my fogs and two more bed rack lights
    [IMG]

Also got everything I need to finish the head unit up for good
    [IMG]

I also stopped in at Goodyear on the way home and I'm never going back there again :roll eyes: asked the guy if he had any 33's in stock and he immediately says well your shit out of luck and proceeds to tell me he can get one for tomorrow but it will cost $227
So I guess I'm going to try another tire store that deals with goodyear tomorrow.

However TireRack.com gave me a quote of 183 per tire and 115 per rim only downfall is shipping is 25 for one tire and 45 for two so i wanna see what the other place gives me for a price before I order

So I have now completely finished the tire side of the dual swing out, the jerry can side is done for now. Sooo all I need to do is cut my bumper weld the spindles on then weld the swing outs on to the spindles

I'd install a triangle gusset on the underside of the rectangle tube that holds the tire mount to the swing out. The tire will produce a good amount of force when the back of the truck bounces around.

And while were gusseting, how about you gusset the plate to the rectangular tube :D

Disagree. Not needed. Thats what the two side arms are for. Be just adding pointless weight doing that.

He will have bigger problems with the weight just moving the entire swing out in general without a second latch holding it down to the bumper.

All tire carriers I've seen build have that gusset. I guess all you do is then move the failure point to a smaller part of the swing out if you choose not to gusset that area. I'm assuming it would be better for the tire to fall off the swing arm than to lose the whole swing out, either way your out of a spare tire/wheel setup and somebody behind you is gonna be pissed off. I've got a double swing out setup with bushings and a grade 8 bolt holding it in place and have had no movement what so ever, two latches would be overkill IMO.

I have no such gusset and have no issues at all.

He needs a second latch due to how he designed his first latch. Its very smart. But flawed in location.

I agree with the suggestion for a gusset under the tire mount. I also agree with the gusset from the plate to the tube. But that's just me.

Just because you don't have a problem yet doesn't mean the design couldn't be improved upon. That's alot of weight on the swingout and a small gusset that weighs less than 1/2 lb goes along way in that design. Just think a typical wheel/tire setup is around 100 lbs so if the length of the tube connecting the swingarm to tire mount is 5" long that's roughly 500 ft-lbs of force being applied at that point.

Pretty sure that's the type of gusset that Black Pipe is talking about
