That's probably the backing plate... So you wouldn't need anything other than the brakes. Weird that they said you need to weld and then it has the holes already.

There yours if you want them.
I can get a measurement of the studs on the brakes to see if the holes line up

let me see how it tows my quad first. I finally replaced the drums on the Tacoma so hopefully that helps lol.

What else would I need to do to install the trailer brakes? Get a trailer brake controller and re wire the trailer?

Brake controller, get wires from the brakes to the trailer plug, change to 7pin plug. Change the truck to 7pin?
Also drums/hubs for your trailers wheel stud pattern. You said you just got a spare for it, what pattern studs? the drums I have for the brakes are Toyota stud pattern.

Neither of my ATV trailers have brakes and they do just fine.
My larger trailer can carry two of them and I tow it comfortably without brakes.
    Just my $.02 ;)

    ...too much shit to list.
Trailer brakes are a no brainier with an expo trailer. You can load the trailer brakes with the controller in off camber situations and manipulate the truck with the trailer staying put. Street towing and trail towing are two very different things. 2 cents from some asshole.

Shit I missed that part about the stud pattern. Mine is 5 lug so it won't work.

Precisely until you get to 3 machines or a really heavy trailer plus machines. My dad's trailer I use weighs 3k empty so brakes are must but I've towed a couple smaller trailers with 2 machines on it at a time and it's not a problem

Yea well with a 5x8 with my quad on it in heavy traffic on rt 17 in New York it was all I could do to not rear end everyone that cut me off at the last minute.

I'm not talking about normal driving. I'm talking about douche bag drivers in heavy traffic, requiring emergency stopping every 5 minutes.

But now with new rear drums and shoes hopefully the truck will stop better even without trailer brakes.

Just don't drive in places like that! Haha but I'm sure it'll be better with the better brakes on the truck itself

That's why I bought a brand new Polaris sportsman 450. Out the door under $6k (2016 left over) and I know no one fucked it up before I got it. With used bikes you never know what you'll get.

I would consider it if I wasn't pressed for cash after buying house. I saw one with a bill of sale and I couldn't help but laugh thinking its stolen

That's why I still have mine. Rather rehab them later than go out and start over again. Also the 86' 250R is not easily obtained.

The guy who rents space in my dad's truck garage has an 86 250R. It's awesome! Sorry to get the thread off track, Steve!

The timbren is really nice. My last trailer had leafs. After learning a lot and doing research...the hitch will twist before the suspension travels ( I have max coupler) I found that the need for flexy leafs isn't needed as much as people think. The little bit of flex is fine as I run the max coupler. As far as towing...the timbren is a dream. I'm still working on mine, but I took it on one trip in June fully loaded with the rooftop tent mounted and it was great.
