Hey all, know there are about 1000 frame rust threads but couldn’t find anything directly addressing rust in the frame sandwich.

Bought truck, 2014 DCLB, in January and now doing PM for the frame and getting into what I am dealing with. Knocked out all the surface rust and getting ready to do the por15 job.

Located some potential issues in frame sandwhich under rear door. Already took truck to dealer says it passed but due to frame cut for lift only able to spray so if at some point frame fails I’m SOL. Didnt actually talk with tech so don’t have his opinion on it.

If I shoot some rust reformer or some other rust converter up there do I have a chance of saving this thing.
    Thanks

Curious as to what part of the frame was cut for a lift... any pics?

I'd wire wheel out the loose rust that you can, then clean with a rust reformer, and paint with Por15. Your exfoliation looks bad but if you can to both sides of that and clean it out well enough, you should be good to go. Alternatively you could go to here and follow those steps.

Thanks. Appreciate the reassurance I’m not screwed yet. I saw those, just seeing if anyone has dealt with getting in the sandwich.

Bottom line is that you want to neutralize future rust from forming. Removing the loose flakes and coating with a rust reformer will help to slow the spread but it must be covered with something. With the exfoliation that's occurring now, it compounds the difficulty in keeping the water out of there.

Previous owner put in a 6in lift, cut front crossmember to lower front dif.
Did a decent job from what I can tell but that’s what dealer said. Anyone else run into it?
