Supra, got any info on linking a taco? You know of a good link calculator or something I could find some good info on? Im trying to research links but dont know where to start. I believe Im going to link the truck the very first time. Granted, it will be a very long time and I will be saving up money and parts over many years as well as researching. I would like to do it a couple years after I get out of college. Im a junior in HS. My dream plan is to run tons and 40s and have it sitting relatively low like mossyrocks runner.

awesome write up thank you for taking the time to do this :)

i'm considering doing this to mine in a couple of years but, it would still be my daily driver. if i do take the plunge and go for a sas with all new stuff how is reliability? is this going to be something thats going to be broken like everyday or is it a reliable set up if done properly?

i understand this is a simple question but, since your one of the few guy's on tw and you seem to have a bunch of knowledge and first hand experience on the subject.

if you do it right and use quality parts it can be used as a DD with few limitations

since my SAS ive only broken 1 thing on the highway and that was due to a defective part

Well its mainly calculated when you set up the axle.. links can be done SO many different ways, I have no real way of telling you a specific way to do it.

As fire said, yes it will and can be reliable, but the more reliable you want it, the more it will cost. I DD mine for like 4 months and would have continued if I didn't buy a new truck. It wont be like IFS though, it'll be it's own.

    Exactly.

I try to get as much triangulation as possible and then it's just a matter of what fits. There are a few "rules of thumb" to keep the thing driveable, like keeping the lower links as flat and as long as possible.

One more thing, you will probably need to cut out the stock t-case crossmember to get it to clear the front driveshaft, so now is the time to do a dual case or a "lefty". And set the lower link length as close to the front driveshaft length at this point for minimal compression of the shaft.

All that being said, as easy as it is to do a link setup, I would never use leafs up front again.

Thanks, it was posted on RST and really helped me out with trying to understand the inputs for the link calculator. Great thread you have put together, there is so much to these swaps that people just don't get beyond the cost alone.

thats under $2000 and i wheeled the shit out of my truck broke a few u joints and hubs. but my truck was done it wheeled great and i built it over time.

sence then i've gone threw many axles and setups.

if i had to do it again all over as it was my first build.

i would go with toyota axle get rid of the shitty chain driven tcase and do the v6 adapter to 4cyl gear case. so it was passenger side drop

oh BTW i do build the dana 60/toyota fronts and tacoma rears and sell them. currently theres 3 of us running the fronts and atleast a dozen running the rears around my area.

oh and the 3.0l V6 oil pan works great and bolts right on and the pick up tube. no need for all the crap from the T100 setup and drilling out the new dip stick :D

EDIT: assuming you'd be doing the SAS on a v6 truck...for the 4cyl idk lol

So you didn't have any brakes or they were just magically perfect from 30 years ago? $50-100

Guess you couldn't steer either, since you had no hy-steer $300.

I'm sure those old school bearings were still solid after 20+ years as well. $100

Tires must of been free, I want free tires, please? $1,000

Gotta use this oil pan if you're not a 3.4l $250

    Also didn't know a shop/welder/plasma cutter/torch/grinder/grinding wheels/beer were free either. $250

I could go on. No, you are right, you don't need to buy the best parts right away, but if you cheap out on everything and expect it to work SAFELY then I don't want to wheel with you, just saying.

my truck isn't anywhere near perfect and the cost's I have added on my truck or anyone elses truck is a rough estimate on a safe rig. Not some quick thrown together truck. You can do a SAS for cheap, gotta take your time finding the right deals at the right time. There are people that have done it, 5-10 years of collecting.

Truck looks great though, I'm just tired of the I can SAS for $32 and a dildo. It doesn't happen.
