hey guys. I am curious about what people are using to clean and shine the ORM toyota satin black rear toyota bumpers? Not the bumper caps themselves; but the metal bumper

I actually just replaced this bumper with a brand new oem one from the dealership about two months ago and while it was never really gleaming; it seems to dull quickly

Just wanted to know what the consensus is! Thanks guys

I'm wondering if something like 303 aerospace protectant may help. You can just spray some on let it sit for a few minutes and give it a good wipe down with a dry microfiber towel. This should matte it down a little more but still keep a satin sheen.

    Post a pic?

If it's paint, use a spray wax. If it's plastic/vinyl, yeah 303 protectant is nice stuff.

I shot it with some Griots Speed Shine and it cleaned it and appeared wet for about 60 seconds; and then it went back to that dullish grey hue ive been seeing. Meh

This product is for plastic trim. It does have a heavy shine to it. It's almost like a clear coat spray paint. Very durable.

While I personally didn't like it for trim (too shiny and artificial looking), I do use it in my wheel wells because it's sooo easy. And super durable. Just spray it all over in the wells and it makes it look like new.

I wonder if this might work for what you want to do? Ordinarily, I'd recommend a spray wax for paint, not a "dressing". But spray wax only improves an already bright looking paint and won't do much on a matte surface.

You might give this a try. I'd be curious to know how it works. Overspray is a bitch to remove, so spray on a towel out of the wind, then wipe on the surface.

Another product I haven't used myself... I know they make a "clear coat" for plasti-dip. You spray it over the top of your black plasti-dip to give it some sheen. Anyone know if it would work in this application? I do not know. Perhaps it needs to bond on top of plasti-dip itself. Black plasti-dip might be another option for you.

Have you tried a spay wax or traditional wax? If that doesn't help then what @NMTrailRider recommended above will probably do the trick.

I shined it up with Griots Speed Shine and it really didn't do much, if nothing at all.. hell I even added tire shine to a microfiber towel to apply on a small spot underneath to test it out and it didn't do much lol

I did, however, purchase Adams Polishes Black Restoration Kit for my fenders.. maybe I can use that on the bumper as well lol

Agreed. In fact I'd probably go with something like Optimum Spray Wax.

Griots speed shine is more of a lubricant and is only for clear coat. It’s hard to keep satin bright and shiny. If you want it shiny spray it with clear coat and you can use any car paint wax or shine on it. Just as stated above, 303 protectant or aerospace works great to protect the satin sheen.

What is the finish on the bumper? Is it painted?

Adam’s is a detail spray not a wax. I wouldn’t expect it to do much.

303 will be good till first rain. If going that route try GTechniq C4. It will last much longer

If it’s painted there is no reason you can’t use a wax. I would recommend a sealant since it will last longer.

The products you have been trying are temporary products.

I second the suggestion of a sealer. I know Chemical Guys makes a sealer specifically for matte paint jobs. It might be worth a try and give you the color effect you are after.

Just to clearify though, it’s a matte finnish on that bumper, it will not be shiny. If you want it shiny, have it repainted.
A good sealer will help it stay deep black while giving it a layer of UV protection to prevent dulling.

I remember some time back i had my old new tacoma professionally detailed and it had the same bumper and that bad boy gleamed for weeks and weeks. Wish i knew what they used. But i will definitely seek out the sealant as that makes sense as well
