I moved my scangaugeII from my 2013 tacoma 2.7L to my 2017 tacoma 2.7L and the transmission temps show just fine. never changed a thing with the swap.

I liked your setup and am going to try mine in the same location.

These folks are awesome!! I wanted to see if it could check oil temperature (just figured I'd ask) so I send them an email last night. They already responded w/ some codes to try out. That is some rather fine customer service!

Keep in mind that I have NOT tried these yet (was going to program before I headed home from work), but they also note that this was for the 2.7L and were not sure if they would work for my 3.5L motor. I was going to try just to see if maybe the sensor mapping was the same, but you can try as well:

The engineer got back to me regarding oil temperature. If your Tacoma is the 2.7L then this should work:

    Engine Oil Temperature (Degrees Fahrenheit)
    TXD: 07E02134
    RXF: 432100000000
    RXD: 4008
    MTH: 00090005FFD8
    NAM: EOT
    Notes: Requires firmware 4.22+

If I get an update before I head home from work, I will post the codes.

    ** UPDATE **

The codes did not work for me, so I will post if I get an updated code back from the SGII folks.

The same fuel level code works for both engines, so you definitely have a chance. Thanks for sharing.

That doesn't work for me... 3.5L. Thanks for posting, though.

I have 4.4 firmware on mine (which i just got not too long ago) - programmed the x-gauge input from the website and it works just fine for the tranmission temps. I guess the information I'm looking for now is what are the "oh shit" temps for the transmission?

I keep 4 gauges up on my SGII, Intake Air Temp, Water Temp, and TF 1 and TF 2.

Normally you'll be under 200. Heavy off road or towing will likely get you above that. Someone said the Transmission Temp warning light doesn't come on until over 300!

I am returning an ultragauge because it will not read trans temps on my 2016 taco, and am I correct I'm thinking this gauge from Amazon will work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VX2NOK2/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

Reviews say yes, but I didn't see if there is a way to verify 4.4 or 4.22 firmware as I would like it to be a plug in and play unit, which the ultragauge was not.

Also is anyone using this to monitor converter temps, or is that the trans 1(pan) trans 2(converter) temps.

Forgive my ignorance but this is all quite new to me.

If you order it now, new, it will come w/ the 4.42 firmware, which can be programmed to monitor the transmission temperatures. I am watching those temps on my 2016 Tacoma.

hitting 200ish highway on hot days like today on the highway on the transmission, mostly 190, seems about normal.

city driving for short distances it doesn't get quite that high
