I know you did, I was just clarifying to the other guy!

Out of curiousity, do you know what the T-case actuator costs to replace?

Unfortunately on the 4 cyl the squeak also comes from the pivot in the middle of the clutch fork. That's kinda scary to be spraying grease in there right next to the clutch!

I'm surprised front wheel bearings didn't make the list.

Damn. I searched for 2 days straight for "known issues" on the second gen platform and the advanced search didn't provide a damn thing. I search for "road armor bumpers" and I find this...after I've purchased the Baja.

Interesting. So frame rust is still an issue on the newer Toyota trucks, huh?

Keep in mind this is a thread where all people are going to say is what went wrong with their Tacoma. It's not a bad truck, your new baby will treat you well!

Yeaaa....I hope that it doesn't end up having some chronic problem like all my past cars. I bought this truck so I drive it into the ground...like for 10-15 years! I've got less than 100 miles on it now, but I love it already. Preparing now on wasting money on it, but just on day to day amenities and functional cosmetics. Only real major "engine" thing is the S/C but that's gonna be a while.

I just bought my third 05. The first one I bought new and sold a little north of 100k. In that time the shocks went south around 60k, both front wheel bearings were gone a little after 70k, A/C compressor went at about 85k, and the alternator went at about 90k. Next one needed both front wheel bearings when I bought it at 112k. Just bought one with 122k on it and both front wheel bearings have been done. One at 72k, the other at 74k. I would say those are pretty common. Fortunately I've got pretty good at changing them.

I only have the wind noise issue and other than that no other problems and I have never heard the ticking noise from Tacoma but it really all depends on how you treat your truck and drive it

I'll add to the previous posters, replaced both front wheel bearings @ 85k.

Leafs are worthless, can't even support advertised payload of 1200lbs on the door jamb of my truck, not even close and that is with TSB springs. Also blower resistor and motor problems are quite annoying.

In case in may not look like it, I really DO like my truck, but obviously it isn't prefect.

No cargo light integrated with the 3rd brake light. I realize some people add their own cargo lights on the side of the bed but that looks so generic.

Rear diff whine and howling on my 2007 with 40K miles. Opened diff to find side carrier bearings worn. In process of replacing them. Adjusting backlash and carrier bearings require shims..not like older diffs with threaded adjustable rings.

Front lift, ride rite air bags, side steps, rear camera switch.
The only weakness I have found on my 2009 tacoma with 110K on the clock, are the leaft springs. When bought last month, it came with one OEM and one Daver's, which was making the clunking noise on the front bolt. i got one OEM from junk yard to replace that one and noise went away, but junk yard forgot to tell me the one the got me, came out of a sinlge cab 4x4 OR. So I was 1/2" lower on the rear driver side. I got the ride rite air bags to fix that problem and also the weak spring problem. Other than that, just a front right bearing that was making the humming noise. Replace all four to start fresh on that epartment. Now, all the noise I hear, is wind while doing 95mph on the highway!
I love this truck. Im yet to do my refernce point maintenance on it like I do with every vehicle I purchase. that way I keep an accurate history on maintenance. (Oil change [engine, tranny, differentials and steering], plugs, PCV, belt, K&N drop-in, break flush, coolant flush, grease all U-joints and repack CV joints.)

After much research I am convinced my use of Royal Purple gear oil caused the failure of my rear diff. All bearings are damaged.
