With all the conflicting opinions and media reports, I found myself dizzy in seeking any kind of sane consensus as to weather to buy or not to buy.

I looked at all the vehicles I have ever bought, seen all the ones my friends and contacts bough and all the different brands I have owned and which ones I would and would not buy again.

After I did all that I took a leap of faith in the TOYOTA brand, took a deep breath, and asked myself this question on this new model...

    But that's just me :D

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Like I mentioned earlier, they have some kind of funky scoring system and I believe they are using the so called bad ride and or seating position as a way of calculating the reliability score.

The only Tacomas that are having issues are the ones without the Pro grille. You'll be fine.

I haven’t trusted CR for many years. They are definitely on “the take” from certain interests.

I’m reminded of the big smear campaign that went on against Toyota about 9 or 10 years ago. I used to sell cars at a Honda dealership during the time when the government was bailing out the US automakers. There was a huge witch hunt against Toyota, with the B.S. about sticking accelerator pedals. This was a real instance of “fake news”. I remember feeling bad for the guys down the street at the Toyota store. They had to be starving. Little old ladies were coming in left and right to trade really nice, low mile Camrys for Accords because they were scared of their cars. I turned around and sold every one immediately. Nothing wrong with those cars, but they drank the Kool aid.

Certain American entities seem to resent Toyota’s success, and love throwing them under the buss. Reviews are opinions, mixed with carefully selected facts. Hardly the word of God.

Do you guys think a lot of this comes from the auto trans issues? So getting the MT would help to cement any reliability concerns?

To be fair to CR, I did find two elements of truth in their concern statement:

1- The driver's seat has no height adjustment
2- It rides like a truck

Maybe some of it does, but the complained about the ride and feel of the truck. Again, they liked the Ridgeline because it rode better among other things.

It seems like you’ve done your research. Now it’s time to sack up and make your own decisions. Are you seriously going to rely on some website and an Internet forum to make your decisions for you?

Dude go test drive some trucks. Buy one you like. It's your decision and yours alone. At this point you're just being annoying

The auto and the manual both have good and bad points.
I needed the four door longbed. I did not need a manual, and happy with my slushbox long wheelbase truck I can parallel park down town.

Consumer reports has never liked the Tacoma and their reviews reflect their preferences and biases. These trucks carry over a lot from the 2nd gen and those are pretty damn reliable. The engine and transmission would be the biggest question marks, but there’s already a ton of them on the road and people are racking up a lot of miles and you don’t hear about transmissions or engines blowing up. I had a 2016 for 30k miles and I’ve got 5k on my 2017 and haven’t had any issues that would affect reliability.

But, you’ve already been on TW researching so you might as well just give it up, cause now you’re going to be paranoid AF, no matter what. :p
