Hello everyone, I just bought my first Tacoma, an 04 regular cab 4wd with 62000 miles. I've been looking for just this setup for a while so I bought the car quickly without having my own inspection done. The dealer of course claims perfect condition but I'm thinking I should have someone give it a once over. What's the best way to do this? Take it to a local Toyota dealer? Can another mechanic do this for cheaper than the dealer? I've been lurking here for a while and have read about the frame rust issue and ball joints possibly being a problem. Anything else. This is the 2.7l manual transmission. If anyone has any tips on how I can protect my investment (spur buy) I would appreciate the feedback. thanks.:)

I don't know if there is a point to spend money on an inspection if you all ready bought it....

I would suggest fluid changes, transfer case, transmission, diff, Mobil 1 75 90 will do the trick

I sure hoped you checked the frame for rust before you bought it. And yeah, kind of late for an inspection post-purchase.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just do the basic fluid changes. The frame seemed ok with a quick look but I hear they rust from the inside out anyway. I'll see if I can find someone who has a better idea of what to look for on the frame.

I would call your local Toyota dealer and have them do a once over on the frame for rust, it's your best bet.
