My dealer says that Toyota changed the availability for these rims about a month ago. I imagine the online stores will be late to party and only pull their advertising as they are refused inventory.

Local dealers in person say they cannot sell you the special edition wheels all the time. Plenty here on TW have reported that story. Then those same people have no problem buying them from Toyota online.

You can buy them from Toyota here:

    Thanks Crashnburn80!

I ordered these wheel from the website that you suggested after trying my dealer and 2 other websites, they are in the shipping process as of today! My stock tires do still owe me some miles before I can replace them though.

But the money you spend on re-mounting and balancing could be put toward new tires. ;)

I've been meaning to do some cleanup on this thread to make it more problem centric than solution centric.

good thread, helped point me in the right direction on my own tire/wheel choice

which ended up being 16" ray 10's (21.5 lbs) & cooper at3's 116t's (41 lbs) for a total of 62.5 lbs per corner

Nice work Tacomavan. Man that is a light wheel.
I'm glad you started this thread Crashburn as it got me paying attention to the wheel/tire weights.

So I'll quickly share some weights I've come up with and the direction I'm heading...

For a base line I weighed my stock steelies with some 1/2 worn Terramax HTs in 245/75r16 (stock) and the combo comes in at 63 lbs. I ended up picking up a set of used 1st gen Tundra wheels with old Primewells on them for super cheap knowing they had to weigh less, (and I think they look pretty good on 2nd gen Tacos too). So those weighed in at 55 lbs for the combo, a nice 8 lb difference. This is also with them being a size bigger at 265/70r16.
I just had the rubber pulled off the Tundra rims this week and I was pleasantly surprised that they weigh in at 23 lbs. They also just look damn strong the build on them.
Anyways so now I'm tire researching and I've found a couple ATs I like, one is 38 the 36 lbs. So I could have an all in of 59 per with 265/70 16s all terrains, which would be fairly feathery.:)
I will admit it feels a little funny being a weight weenie with a truck, but I figure why not. I'm definitely used to doing it between my old sport bike and my current road bike (pedal).
Here's a photo of the situation..(The Tundra rims were super dirty hence the $50 for all 4 price, they've since cleaned up pretty nicely.) I'll probably black them out anyways

Nice write up @crashnburn80 ....I went through a similar decision when I went from the original TRD PRO rims and factory BFG tire to the much heavier LT 265/75/16 BFG KO2 load range E tires and I didn't like the drop in perceived performance or MPG's.....

here's what I found out......my stock TRD PRO rims weigh 23.50 lbs and the LT 265/75/16 BFG KO2 load range E tires weigh 53.57 lbs......so the grand total is 77.07 lbs per rim & tire.

the TRD 17-IN. MATTE BLACK ALLOY WHEEL - Toyota (PTR20-35110-BK) rim weighs 24.69 lbs and the LT 265/70/17 BFG KO2 load range C tires weighs 45.72 lbs.......so the grand total is 70.41 lbs per rim & tire.

so the 17" rim and tire combo weighs 6.66 lbs or 8.64% LESS per wheel.....that seem pretty decent.

So needless to say I sold my stock TRD PRO rims with the almost new LT 265/75/16 BFG KO2 load range E tires for $1,200 on here and bought the TRD 17-IN. MATTE BLACK ALLOY WHEEL - Toyota (PTR20-35110-BK) and the LT 265/70/17 BFG KO2 load range C tires. I switched over the TPMS but I had to buy new lug nuts. It probably cost me around $800 or so to make the switch after factoring in the $1,200 I got from sell my old set-up but I love the new look and it seems to perform better.....I haven't driven much to see if my MPG's went up but I suspect they might.....

Here's the photos with the original TRD PRO rims and factory tires and the TRD PRO rims with the LT 265/75/16 BFG KO2 load range E tires and also the TRD 17-IN. MATTE BLACK ALLOY WHEEL - Toyota (PTR20-35110-BK) and the LT 265/70/17 BFG KO2 load range C tires....

Don't discount attention to detail. Rotational weight is terrible for mpg/performance. Yes you can claim it is a 'truck' so therefor you should care about weight. But the F150 is way more truck than the Tacoma ever will be and Ford spent a crazy amount of money to convert it to aluminum to reduce weight.

Are you sure those are Tundra wheels? They look like 1st gen 01-04 Tacoma wheels.
Good choice on wheels, they look sharp and are the lightest OEM 17s.

Nice job to the OP on this write up. I will definitely be keeping this in mind when I'm shopping for new rim/tire combos. Lots of useful info here thanks!
