seperating birfield/cv joint from axle

    I have a bad birfield on one of my lt axles and I got a new one but I cant get the birfield off the new axle. I've tried sliding it in a tube and beating it out, heat, went to every shop in town worth a shit and they couldn't get it either. Anyone have any tricks?

    You figure this out yet? If not feel free to PM me. Although you might not be able to save the axle shaft.

    TC L/T, King shocks/bumps, F/R ARB's, RCV Shafts, glassworks fenders/bedsides.
    Ive never been able to save the shaft on the new replacement shafts. (but their useless for a LT rig anyways)
    youll have to cut the shaft close enough to the inner star to be able to rotate it to remove the balls. once thats out i needed to use a 100ton press and with about 50 tons it explodes out the shaft nub from the star.
    never been able to remove them (from a new shaft) using the tube method.

    Yeah I already got it, also found it easier if you push it through the opposite way, or go back and forth, got it with a 20 ton and didn't shoot out. Nice and smooth. I've only been able to get one apart like that and it was an axle from napa with I then realized that the oem and napa axles are different sizes and splines.

    Wouldn't recommend going the opposite way with a press. Press it out from the uncut side. (Inside)

    I'm 50/50. Two pressed, two slide pipe trick. From now on I'm just getting them pressed, local guy has been doing it free. I usually slip him 20 bucks though.

    I spent several hours on my first two. Then I just had them pressed at bamf. Then I brought him a spare one and 2 for @stroM- . Jerry has pressed 5 total for me. Its not worth the head ache to hit it with a pipe. I mushroomed a steel pipe after several hours. Just ask @JLee

    My cv pipe is mushroomed like crazy, Lol. I got lucky my first one came apart so easy like 4 solid hits. so I beat on the second one for awhile and then some more, and more. Finally said f this and chopped it up. Was a brand new axle

    You should of seen that tube! my 100 ton press took care of all 5 in seconds!

    That's not what's going to possibly cause the damage, your forcing the retaining clip further through the splines.

    That's why i go back and forth to break the c clip, my splines looked nothing like that they looked brand new

    Only one of my axles that looked like that. Was a brand new cv, took almost 100 tons to get it out, shot out like a rocket. Clip stayed in the channel.

    My doors are the only stock things left besides the headlights
    the best way to get the stub out is have someone with a lathe bore it out till they just about cut the snap ring groove. no press required.......its what I did....but I have a lathe soo
