(serious..ish) What's with everyone buying a truck, spending 20k in mods, and selling a month later?

Title. I've been a part of a number of car forums. I've never seen so many people buy a vehicle brand new, spend a metric butt ton of cash upgrading random stuff, and then post it for sale. Generally it has been accepted that if you spend that much money, you ain't getting most of it back, and you're keeping your car/truck for a good long while.

The 3rd gen for sale section is a literal dumpster fire right now.

Is it the water? Instagram fads? 5G?

    Fads, Instagram definitely.

But also a lifted modded camping truck is good at off-roading abd camping.

Hard to pick up a motorcycle with a tent rack on.

Hard to sit the kids with a fridge in the back seats.

    How often do you camp?

Dailying a rig can be as big a pain as dailying a track car.

They're noisy the brake slow accelerate slow burn gas fast and rattle and squeak the whole way.

I think people go in all the way not knowing what they're getting into because dam. It looks cool in pictures so *I* must need all that junk too!

When you can have 90% of that same fun in a bone stock rig a igloo cooler and your old mans pup tent.

If you even decide it's your thing to do at that point.

Best advice, start small get out there then replace it and upgrade it as you break it and learn your needs.

    ^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^

Know why most yacht owners started with a smaller boat?
Know why most 22+ Foot travel trailer owners started with pop-ups, roof top tents, or little 16' Bambi's?
Know why most Super C owners started with less expensive Class As?

Same reason. They started at a comfortable price point then upgraded as their needs were refined and they realized what they wanted. I don't mind the individuals that trade in their tacos - more gear in the Buy Sell Trade section on the cheap!!

I see some possible reasons. I may be totally wrong, but:

1: it comes with the time we live in. short attention span or somethhing
2: big load e tire and lift don`t ride so nice when you`re used to car
3: people buy truck and realize they never needed a truck
4: big tire and the drivetrain of a tacoma? do I really need to explain more here?

it`s a midsize truck. full of compromise. The glamour look they search for only add more compromise. but at the end of the day, it`s a small toyota truck, with the famous toyota tax, making it less tech and with some questionable small details wrong, however still more reliable on the long run than most. but they don`t care about long run, 6 months is a long time in 2022.

They joined TW, got caught up in a whirlwind of “possibility”, lost their ability to say no, and ended up broke because they maxed out all their credit cards building their dream rig?

Food for thought: financial situations change. Case in point: me. Over on Cummins Forum you'll see a build thread where I put together an insane rig with money I saved up from contract work. I posted under the UN "souts" over there. I had the truck for two years before I decided to sell it to pay for school. I could have a badass truck that drank diesel or I could pay for a few years of college. I sold. Tough decision.

I am certain someone asked the same question of my build: "What kind of idiot would build this just to sell?" The kind of idiot whose situation had changed.
