Just look into a cummings r2.8 turbo, lighter then the 4bt. 4bt is a good engine but isnt the holy grail of cummings engines. The r2.8 you can buy for 9k brand new create engine with everything you need other then a tranny

Yes, because most (if not all) swappers are going for off-road use.
SAS is not a necessity to handle the weight.

Doing some reading the 7.5 should be plenty strong.

Reading the responses in this thread I don’t think he was wrong at all and is trying to save you from making a terribly uninformed mistake.

Put it this way, spend 3k on a 4bt then maybe another 7k in fabrication just for it to run right without breaking or 9k on a r2.8, you can keep your suspension pretty much stock because its only 100 pounds and the r2.8 which comes with everything you will need and will with toyota R series transmission. So you will spend pretty much the same in the end, just one will be hella heavy and may or may not work but the you have a 4bt (which isnt all that cool, cummins 12valve is cooler) or the one that is best option for a small light weight truck like our trucks.

    Stock-ish
Or just put an LS in and pocket the $5k in savings over a 4bt/r2.8 if he is shooting for more power

So we are pretty much saying just take the tacoma cab and weld it to a Cummins frame.
