Shaking while idling

I have 2017 and when I am sitting at a stop light it starts to idle kind of heavy and shake, I noticed if I let the engine run for a couple minutes when I start the truck before putting it in gear it will tend to not do it as much. I searched in the past and was told to change the spark plugs and ignition coils which I did about 2 years ago with only seeing slight improvement. Anyone have other suggestions??

 

Maybe some Lucas injector cleaner? Kinda sounds like dirty injectors that are not spraying like they should.

 

You might also try cleaning your MAF sensor. Make sure you use the proper cleaner and don't touch the wires. There are plenty of videos on YouTube of how to do this.

 

I would say my 2022 is the same. It is the 500rpm idle and the atkins cycle engine I think.

 

My '22 too. Definitely the engine cycling.

 

try cleaning the throttle body? the valve could have trouble staying open during idle if it's a little gunked up which will cause your shaking.

 

+1 for my 2021. Idles at 500-600 rpm but it's not to the point of being annoying.

Haven't noticed anything like that yet on my 2020 with a little over 17k miles. Engines always very smooth. Many times at a stop light the truck feels like its engine is off.

 

If its really bad it could be worn engine mounts, but idk how old your truck is. My wife's 08 jeep patriot would shake horribly while in drive and at a stop but when in neutral it was ok. When driving at medium to high speeds the shaking seemed to stop. After i swapped out 2 of the 4 mounts it fixed the problem.

 

When my tundra 4.7 felt a little rough running at idle, and the idle speed was off, the throttle body needed cleaning. I'd get in there with a rag and throttle body spray cleaner, and clean the insides from all this black crud that was built up.

 

I dunno, mine has a clicking sound when I first start it and it lasts for a couple mins. After the engine warms up it seems to go away. Either that or it's still there and I no longer notice it

 

Do you have an air filter that needs to be oiled for use? If so throw it in the garbage, clean the MAF and install the stock paper filter. If not you probably have an ignition issue, ala spark plugs, coil or spark plug wires.

 

We all have varying ideas of what "heavy" is. the type of engine it is and the way it operates some shaking is normal

 

I guess it’s time for you to have your 2017 tacoma in for Toyota fuel induction/injector cleaning. Just had mine and it feels /idles/sound like new. It feels and sounds so smooth . I’d say it’s 180$ well spent. Involves cleaning the throttle body, decarbonize the valves and cleaning the injectors .

Cleaning Cycle, don't sweat it.

 

I think those cleanings are a huge money maker for those dealerships. I use to get the same results with some throttle body cleaner, and a can of sea foam.

 

Had this on my old truck. Dirty throttle body was the culprit. Took the throttle body off, took some throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush and cleaned it all out. Ran line brand new afterwards until I sold it.

 

are you talking about when you are at idle for a while, (light, idling in the parking lot) where it goes tick tick tick and then sounds like stuffy british guy grovelling up some plegm..."huh huh huh huh cuh hmmm" and then back to the tick ticking sound?
