I was driving yesterday morning at around 1030 to head to the gym and it wasn't terribly hot yet, I had the front two windows down on my 4 door tacoma and after I was about .25 miles away from my house all of a sudden i heard a loud explosion sound and I look back and my back passenger side window had exploded. There is glass all over my backseat, floor, everywhere.... I have no idea what could have caused this as it wasn't terribly hot yet and I had the front windows of the car down. The only thing that I can think of is some type of perfect storm with the sun hitting it and something relating to the pressure in the car with the front windows down...but then again I'm not really sure. Do you all think that it might have been faulty glass as I've only had the car for around 6 months. To me that shouldnt have happened. There was nothing that hit my car or anything like that so I'm confused and now have to deal with this window issue. Any thoughts would be helpful thanks.

Are you sure nothing hit it? If it sounded loud then something musta hit it that?

Totally sounds like it was hit by something. Someone could of been weed eating and right when you passed a rock flew up. Could of been anything.

With the windows all the way up the windows they have plenty of support to keep from flexing even from the pressure variances with the front windows down. So I would have to say something hit it.

Someone hit it. If it was because of the wind, pressure inside the vehicle it would have exploded outward, NOT into your vehicle. Someone threw something at you.

I'd file a police report if it hasn't been too long. Btw, I've broken windows before in the cold and they don't make explosion sounds when they break on their own.

Did you find anything in the car? Even a minute rock can break a window. I watched a program about car crime once and the thieves were using tiny little stones, less than the size of a pea, to throw at the windows to break them. That way if they were caught and searched by the cops they could throw the stone away without being noticed.

As said up there ^^^^ it could have been launched by a weed whacker.

That or a pellet gun would be my guess. I would think it would require a pretty strong vacuum in the cab to cause it to implode.

I've heard they use pellet gun pistols out here to break into cars. They hold the nozzle right next to the window and shoot. It makes less noise than bashing it with something.

A friend of mine was leaning on his car's back window once and it exploded making a loud noise. So I don't think it has to be hit to make that noise, although I can't think of any reason this would happen while you were driving down the road unless a projectile hit it.

strange...only way I've seen/heard that happening before was something hitting it from outside. Check inside your truck with a fine tooth comb and you might find what took it out. Clean out a shop vac real good, than vacuum the inside of the truck and check to see what it sucked up.

That sucks man. Awhile back when I still had my stealth I was driving to lunch from work and some kids threw rocks at my car. They missed the windshield but hit the body. Let's just say e-brake, tire spin, 180 in about 0.2 seconds and hitting the rev limiter burning rubber back to where they were at made them run off faster than a cheetah. (no one else was around... and I wanted to teach them a lesson).
