Does ECT even do anything when your in S mode? It changes the shift patterns slightly in Auto, allowing for higher RPM, but that's in Auto. You control the shift points in S mode, or if you have a SS Pro, it controls them... Maybe I'm wrong or missing something, just doesn't seem like it would do anything at all in standard mode.

Maybe what it really does is take you to plaid speed when combined with the SS Pro.

Toyota has a update to the ECM software addressing some of the shifting concerns.
    Definitely shifts smoother.

S = Sequential Mode and it has 1 manual function which is to control the highest gear allowed. Using it changes the shift points but it's still an automatic in every sense of the word. The only way you get manual selection is if you're outside of the shift curve and are selecting a lower maximum gear than that shift curve would prefer.

ECT does add additional throttle sensitivity and increases the shift points beyond S mode alone.

I have had this a week now. I drove in regular drive mode this morning and as soon as I did the "clunk" immediately came back. I'm referring to the awkward downshift between 2nd and 1st gear as you are stopping....happens around 7mph. I did not experience that issue while using the shift sense pro. THIS IS PROOF THAT TOYOTA COULD DO SOMETHING TO FIX THESE TRUCKS!!!

I also towed my utility trailer yesterday. What a world of difference; especially in town. I have totally quit using 6th gear. I drive 65-70 on the freeway around here. No need for 6th gear at all. 6th gear is for all the people that have 75 mph speed limits and they end up driving 75 or faster. Toyota should have added more gears and put the gears closer together....3-4 and 4-5 are too far apart IMO.

I posted somewhere along the line, but I use a splitter that I got off Amazon and it seems to be working just fine.

Just installed my new chip (very simple to do) and it works like a charm. I have to say that it's nice to see folks finding a cool fix for something like this.

To all those folks who want the perfect shift pattern, we'd have to get a manual transmission. I wanted a sport w/ the V6 and it was not available without being a 4x4, which I had no need for. This is as close as what this engine and transmission combo can do. The OP is right... I don't like the 3-4 shift, but if you don't hang onto 3rd, it bogs down 4th. It's not this thing that is the problem, just the combo of this motor and tranny.

Man, great job... glad to see you do something outside the box. Do I wish Toyota would do something... not sure they could and keep the mileage up and they probably look at the extra shifting as a non-issue. I mean... it's not like they didn't ship a bunch low on transmission fluid or have leaking rear differentials... :)

Overall, for the $200-ish this thing costs, it's well worth it for what I do w/ the truck.

So for my final quick review with the new chip. I did not see a mpg increase but it stayed higher and more stable. Less fluctuation. The truck drives really nice now. I notice with my foot barely on the pedal I am gaining speed everywhere easily. It also helps with slowing down and will help keep some wear off breaks over time. With less shifting all the time I can see the transmission taking less wear. This is probably the best accessory I have bought for my truck so far and I love it. Maybe someday the OP will release the Shift-sense Pro Extreme edition. I will place the first order lol. I love how easily it is to hide and simple to install. Regardless I do not use D at all anymore. Really excited to tow my box trailer once I need too. I recommend this product for sure and also my only complaint is maybe make some of the cords longer so you can hide it maybe under the seat or somewhere in one of the back storage areas. Or that can be an option cord lengths? . Overall a great product and I will spread the word to my buddies :)

Put in my new chip today. My pins were a little jacked, but I straightened them out and did the test procedure and everything seems to be running great. My mpg around town took a ridiculous hit with the first chip but the updated seems to be more friendly with my town driving now. Thanks.

Doesn't the transmission need to be in "D" for the Shift Sense to work? I don't think it will work if you keep it in "S." Am I wrong here????
