SHOCKS for the rear

    Hello Forum,

    As some of you may know I was trying to get Toyota to swap my 3 pack leaf springs to 4 pack leaf springs under the TSB but I passed the 3yr part of the 3/yr/36k mile warranty window. I opted to purchase the Timbren set up to prevent sagging.

    Now, on to the shocks. I noticed on the TSB that besides the leafs, they would have also replaced the shocks with TRD shocks. My '08 Tacoma Prerunner 4.0 double cab has 34,893 miles on it. Is there a noticeable benefit worth me buying TRD shocks for the rear? If not, what shock can I buy that will firm up the rear more? Are coil-overs available that don't give me a 3 inch lift. I can deal with one inch lift but I haven't seen any.

    I used to have an '83 Ford Crown Victoria with rear coil-overs that only gave it a 1 inch lift but I don;t see anything similiar for the Tacoma unless it involves a huge lift kit.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Biolstien 5100's are a much better shock than the OEM TRD shocks. Check out Downsouth Motorsports. They are a vendor on here, have great service, and give a nice discount to members!

    I agree with Chris, but your comment about wanting to "firm up" the rear raises a question. Shocks do not add to the spring rate if that is what you are thinking.

    Wow. I didn't realize that I had written "firm up". The word itself says it "absorber". It absorbs shock.:rolleyes: Sorry.

    BTW. I have a Hellwig 550 which makes it more firm. Yes, I would have liked rear coilover's but noboby makes them for these trucks. So, you recommend Billsteins? OK, who sells them reasonably?

    The shocks on my truck now are black & I don't see a name on them.
