Hey all, wanted to hear what the 1st gen experts thought. I've been looking at used 2nd gens for a DD/work vehicle, but I just saw this 1st gen for sale. It's a 99 with the 4 cyl and auto (yeah, slow) but it's just in from the southwest and seems to be totally rust free. The frame was either swapped, or it's showing the benefits of living in a dry, unsalted climate - looks very solid. Of course, the body paint is pretty much shot, especially on the horizontal surfaces. It's a Prerunner TRD SR5 with 140k miles. Looks like everything works, sheet metal is clean. I went underneath the truck and under the hood, and couldn't find any rust! AFAIK, there should be some rust by now if it was driven in the salt-happy midwest. Drives pretty well. Decent interior, no rips/stains. Good tires too.

So what do y'all think is a good price? Asking $7k.

caged, camburg long travel, 50t leafpack (soon to be installed) light rack over cab, 5pt harnesses etc
    way too much IMO

4k max, if it needs paint less....

i paid 4.5k for my 97 with 138k miles, 4x4, camper shell, 4 cylinder manual, brand new tires. ran great no issues at all. perfect paint also

It's what I would expect. In my area you can't find 1st gens for less than 6-7k.

$7k is not a lot for a truck in good condition. 140,000 miles is nothing on these trucks. Plus if you properly checked out the truck which it sounds like you did I would go for it.

Anything in particular that I should be looking out for in a '99? I checked for all the common stuff like on any used vehicle (frame looks solid, no rust, body straight and rust free, no leaks that I could see under engine or trans, oil and trans fluid clean, interior pretty good too.) I didn't get a pic, but the paint was pretty well shot, like it sat outside in the blazing sun every day. The hood was pretty bubbled up. Maybe get $500 off for that.
