    Very true. Before I found out about RTT's I was thinking long bed and building some type of sleeping platform with a high roof canopy. Then I saw the RTT's and loved them and found an 06 DCSB that I couldn't pass up.

    Morale of the story, don't buy the new Colorado/Canyon. Because;

    I got both, a 2007 2.7L 5 speed Access Cab in Longbed, but my son got that truck now...

    My 2010 is a SB. It's whatever the dealer finds on a trade and has a manual tranny!

    Cheers,

    Long bed. Mine is a company/work truck, and a 5.1' bed won't do the same work a 6' will. I hated the short bed on my last truck, and I won't go back to it.

    Heres a little insight on this for y'all, at a recent Taco meet in the PNW, 3 out of 3 DCLB were killed. 1 - hydro locked a motor, 2 - destroyed the rear diff, 3 - snapped the rear drive line and a few others things.

    There were a lot of DCSB, only one got a new exhaust mod where it came loose form the header.

    And the 3 DCLB were very well equipped with very experienced drivers. SO...

    I am a new DCLB owner and wanna play!
    Spoon, have you ever seen a fun little British film directed by Neil Marshall? Your username is one of the characters that I liked the most, but then you slammed DCLBs LOL JK. I gotta disagree on the idea that the descriptions above support the theory of one truck being better than the other. All of the failures were probably a combination of human error/bad luck. The basic equipment between the trucks is the same if we are talking apples to apples with only the length of the truck being the variable. Now couple that difference in length, with more acute angles and sure a short bed is likely going to be more maneuverable and create less stress on the driveline but if the trail is that twisty I'll probably be legging it at that point anyways :).
    Personally, I want to turn my truck into a capable overland rig while keeping it street friendly and the long bed has more room and seems to hold the line better at speed (from what I could tell during the test drives). I also have bikes and other "stuff" to haul around so this platform should serve me well. I can tell you that coming from jeeps (my last jeep was a capable wrangler unlimited 2010) anything is more useful for towing/carrying than a jeep. This Tacoma is very new to me as a brand, and in terms of capability, mutability, and most importantly reliability. It is a much nicer vehicle in terms of luxuries and finish and everything seems laid out pretty well. I have not taken it on anything more difficult than a desert wash since I picked it up a week ago but it did well and it was a cinch to shift into 4WD. BTW DCLBs don't get high centered, they enjoy the view from both sides at the same time!
    Cheers

    I got a short bed--my only regret is that i have to sleep diagonally in the bed when car camping or after being kicked out of the house. The shortbed is perfect for smurfs.

    I will have to check it out.

    And, yes there is no science behind the debate just the fact that I am right and you are wrong :D

    In all seriousness tho, I had an access cab ranger with the 6ft bed and it was awesome (minus the fact it was a ranger). But I knew I wanted a DC and there were no used DCLB in my area for me to test drive when I bought mine. A few people at work have them and they seem huge but idk. I was ready to buy and it so happened an 06 DCSB with 54k and 1 owner was on the lot. I feel I got a good deal so I went with it. I probably could have waited and test drove some LB but in the end, I do like that it is not as long and I can easily navigate downtown Portland. And it keeps me from bringing extra crap when camping.
