a truck is meant to haul stuff, if you bought it for "its offroad capabilities" you bought the wrong type of vehicle

It is really not a matter of looks - I have a double cab and I think the SB and LB versions both look fine. Once I decided I wanted a Tacoma TRD Sport I was inclined to get the LB - why not? Not much more money - a whole extra foot of bed - a no brainer. However, I wisely did some measuring in my garage and actually changed my mind. The double cab LB would fit in my garage just fine - but I keep a Yakima DoubleDown hitch mounted bike rack on the truck for about 9 months of the year (wife and I are avid bikers). With the bike rack on a LB double cab - it would fit in my garage - but I would have to pull within a few inches of the back wall and would then only have a few inches of clearance from the garage door. That was a tighter fit than I wanted to deal with - so I opted to go with the SB. I have had the truck for almost two years and I don't regret it at all. Ideally my garage would have been a few feet deeper and I would have gotten the LB - but in the two years I've had the truck I've never had a situation where there was something I wanted to haul in the back but couldnl't because it was too short. Then again, I don't typically haul things like lumber or long stuff like that. I have an UnderCover SE on it and typically I'm only hauling things like groceries, bike gear, sports gear, etc... I made the decision that was most practical for me - but to be honest I never even considered which bed length looked better.

Actually - there was one time when maybe the LB would have been better. I was picking up some folding tables from some friends that wifey wanted to use for a garage sale. The tables were long enough that they would not fit in the bed of the truck with the tailgate closed (I think they would have just barely fit in the LB, not 100% sure though). Anyway, I just opened the tailgate, angled the Yakima bike rack down then loaded the tables in and drove home. The tables were heavy enough and I didn't have to drive that far so I didn't need to secure the tables (although I have bungee cords/straps in the truck if I needed them). No problem - SB worked just fine with the tailgate down.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
This, I wish my bed was 7' long on some days, but it gets the job done for the most part!

I prefer the looks of the DCSB, but I saw the '12 DCLB Sport in BLACK at the dealership today and it looked SWEET!

I like my long bed and 100% agree with Jon I would have paid extra for a 7 foot bed if that had been a option.

It's not like the 6' bed is that much bigger. A foot? You want a truck that can really haul stuff, get the Tundra long bed. Now that thing is LONG!

The Tundra DCLB wheelbase is 2' longer than the Tacoma DCLB! Have fun parking that rig. But it got an 8' bed.

Unless you live in China, I really don't see how parking is a factor. Unless you're buying a first pickup for your 16 year old daughter of course.

Wow.. a 4 year long thread. This thing has legs, man.

Access long bed and damn the looks. One hunting bud, guns and gear behind us, four deer in the bed. Just what works for me.

The access cab w/ long bed has good profile balance...as does the double cab short bed.

The double cab long bed has an unbalanced profile, IMHO.

It's nice though that Toyota offers the dc long bed for those who really need the extra foot.

The longer bed also allows for a tool box and still gives decent bed space...for those who go that route.

I love my Tacoma Truck, and I'm nearing 2 years of ownership...which is rare for me. I'm looking at tires and probably will get a set in the fall. I also have 5100's for all 4 corners. I'm gonna keep this truck for a while.

Anyone know when the next generation Tacoma is due out?

I'm getting ready to by a double cab 2nd gen taco (used). The double cab weighs on 65#'s more than the short bad, which is not much. Is there any difference in the suspension (all things kept equal)? Drive shaft length?

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
Rumor & various magazines seem to have a new model Tacoma for 2014.

FWIW ... I will NEVER buy a first year "major model change" again.

Did this with a 2000 Tundra, 2007 Tundra, 2004 Titan and a few other Fords and EVERY time I had major issues with the vehicle.

Now, I buy ONLY after the first few product manufacturing cycles.
