The long bed does have some cool advantages, but there’s a reason FCA and Ford aren’t bothering with a longer wheelbase to make a long bed crew cab happen in their midsizes. The long bed is awesome for a lot of things, and I’m glad you love yours. The fact is that the short bed crew cab is the much better seller, and enough bed for most people. The sentiment of some in this thread that the relatively shallow, narrow 5 foot bed is somehow way less truck than the relatively shallow, narrow 6 foot bed is just silly.

Haven't done the calcs, but we all bought a truck. The long bed is 25% more "truck".

I think Ford chose to not make a longbed version of the Ranger to keep it more distinct from the F150, the bread and butter platform. If they want a bigger bed move up to what everyone else does

For Toyota, the Tacoma is the bread and butter platform, not so much the Tundra. If people want a bigger bed, stay tacoma or else they may move up also to the F150.

I fit the bill for this one, I don’t really need a half ton but I do need the longer bed most of the time when I need to haul things. I looked at Tundra’s and really liked them, but such poor economy compared to trucks like the F150. So I myself would have switched to an F150 instead of a Tundra if I were going to get a half ton.

I wanted one of those in an automatic ... I would have gotten the pro if it came in a long bed. 0DE30CC6-5A38-446C-812C-A95BAE8666BC.jpg

Fanboys don't handle differences of opinion well.

I used to work for the third largest bla bla manufacturing company in the US. (the company is immaterial to my point) And they lived and died by the sales forecast. Make too much or too little of a product and bad things happened to out stock price. I'm sure Toyota knows to within a percentage point what will sell and what won't. And I know for a "for profit corporation" fact that they only build what sells. My old company dropped some lines that would be equivalent to a DCLB Manual PRO. Some people purchased them, but not enough to make it worth while. Why maintain a production line that makes you $ in sales and costs you $$$ in overhead? (or to do the math completely $ in sales - $$$ in costs = -$$ = no profit = no sales bonus for the executives = not happening.)

^this!!^ it is all about the use case! Reading some of these posts I'm like WTF are you driving a Tacoma for? You clearly need a full sized truck. This guy has a fucking bicycle built for 3. The Tacoma long bed is clearly a good choice for him. Folks should be asking the OP what are you going to use your truck for, hauling a bicycle built for 3 or bringing a few bags a fertilizer home?

pretty sure you can't get a "long box" OR at all (in Canada), unless you want an access cab. then you can have the long box and the manual.

Let me summarize this thread so everyone can get on the same page.
I'm sensing some tension that we should diffuse - We all own tacos, so lets not get too fired up.

    1. Clearly the double cab short bed trd is an ideal one-day mission truck. Taking a cooler to the beach, hauling around people, etc. You probably need one of these.
    2. However, you will probably want to do some home improvement projects, and may need to haul some wood, and may want a rig to sleep in, so you should also get an extended cab regular bed.
    3. Fuck it, I bet you are the type that has a 3-person bike fetish, and therefor also needs to be able to haul at least three people, but still doesn't want a full sized truck, so you also need the double cab with a long bed.
So based on my superior reasoning and reductionist approach, I have logically, and irrefutably, concluded that you need three mid sized trucks. You need all three. All three. THREE TRUCKS! Make sure you get one in red, one in white, and one in blue, and get gun racks for all three.

    Thread over.

Ps - Id probably get a silverado, ram, or raptor.

If you're gonna be offroading go short bed. I'd honestly stay off the trails if I had that breakover angle, unless you wanna lift it a bunch.

I choose a long bed for me. I personally don’t give a fuck about anyone else’s opinion. You like a long bed get one. You like a short bed get a short bed. Short bed , long bed. Both are great trucks and look great. To each there own.

The plus of the long bed is tracking (while towing as well, I’ve been told) but that’s not on my personal list of pluses.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
Long bed, short (Access) cab. Get the advantages of shortness on trails, and the longer bed for hauling stuff.
