    Hey TW!

My '15 DCLB I'd due to arrive at the end of April. I'm trading in my 05 Taco that is in Near perfect condition with 85k miles, except for about a 2.5 inch crack in the top of the windshield.

It's not in my line of site but is noticeable I suppose. I had it repaired a few months ago, but not replaced. My truck has always passed inspection since its been there.

My question is, do you think it's woth it to have it replaced before I trade it in? Do you think they'll deduct more off the trade in value, than it would cost to replace it myself? I can get it replaced for less than $500, but I'm indecisive about whether I should or not. My wife says don't replace it, but if they deduct $1k off my value when I pick up my new one in a few weeks, It's worth it to spend $500 now.

    Any opinions?
    Thank you.

    Yes, they will ding you.

For $200 out of pocket, versus $1000 before you start?

If you're that worried... replace it.

Yup. When you get that trucks appraisal it needs to be a perfect and clean as you can get it. I hear carfax is fairly more generous when they buy a vehicle. Also you don't need to buy from them for them to buy yours.

Well I traded mine in with the check engine light on... And they still gave me 18500 for it... And knowing that it technically wouldn't pass smog do to the intake and exhaust.... Just my 2 cents... At the end the dealer knows the true value of the Tacoma

Depends on the dealer. Some push less bullshit than others. Most dealers don't do glass work themselves and outsource the job anyway. If they deduct $500 from the trade-in value, then you might as well leave it as-is. Replacing the windshield carries a small degree of risk with adhesive overspray, water leaks, etc.

Yeah, most dealers I know will inspect the truck before trade and let you know what, if any, deducts they took from the value. Quite often they will search to see what your truck is selling for online, what book value is, and what it is selling at auction for. Then they deduct crap from that value.

Every time I've challenged a dealer they have been more than happy to show me where they got there numbers from. If I disagree they usually have some room to move and if it's over something that needs repair it's usually not a problem to gloss it over.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Contact a glass installer (like Safelite) and see if you can get the vehicle in on one of their tech training days (usually a Saturday) and get it fixed for FREE!
