LOL first time i've heard of being "kidnapped" by a truck. People are so over dramatic.

Everyone's always shitting on the third gen, but I have yet to hear of one having an actual serious mechanical issue. Call me crazy, but a taillight cover coming loose, and stuff like that really isn't a big deal to me.
It's not like these trucks are having SERious issues.
If they are then please educate me.

As for the rear diff howl, every car I've had makes a funny noise when you reverse. Am I missing something here ?

There area handful of people who have posted about their rear diffs completely locking up, failing etc. There were also dozens of people here alone who experienced CPS sensor failures. There are plenty of mechanical and safety issues with the truck. That's why Toyota issued 4 recalls for safety issues affecting over 260,000 trucks.

I sold my 2012 SR5 4X4, and purchased a 2017 TRD Sport 4X4 and I'm very happy with the 2017. The 17 is to me, a more refined vehicle, and I appreciate the technical and creature comfort upgrades.

Great post BuddyS. I say this all the time man! It's so much nicer having an extra $400+ in your account each month from a paid off vehicle that you can do whatever with.

I traded my 2nd gen ('14 TRD Sport) for a 3rd gen ('17 TRD Pro) and love it. The '14 had a smoother transmission. But the '17 is a better truck is in every other way. I don't have any of the complaints I see on here. (I suspect most of these complaints are from folks who should have bought Lexus). From a finance standpoint, both of mine have been leases. I stay within the miles and am very comfortable with the low payments.

Who said it howls in reverse?

No one is complaining about noises the rear diff makes in reverse.

People are complaining about a howling sound at highway speeds that gets progressively worse over time. A sound that screams "hey I'm broken". It's literally diff troubleshooting 101 stuff, but Toyota keeps saying thats their new standard for these trucks.

Matter fact, it's normal, so if you don't have it you should probably take it in and demand they fix your truck.

I drove a '17 automatic and it felt under powered. It was constantly hunting for a gear and reving, and we got back in a 2nd gen and the engine felt stronger and smoother. The interior and the technology were really impressive though, and I liked the suspension.

Set aside the arguments against the move due to mechanical things etc etc.

What you seem to be missing are the financial reasons it's not a good idea, which several folks have pointed out.

In the end only you can decide if you want to be another victim of the 16 tons way of life. :hattip:

Good luck with your decision process.

36 mo., 12K/yr miles. Zero down. Residual value at 70%. Still have to negotiate payments yourself. But I highly recommend using USAA or Costco. You just tell them what you want. They find it. You pick it up. Easiest experience ever.

Not sure. I think I recall ".002" if that number makes sense? I recall they specifically mentioned that that was "Tier 1 lease money" if that makes sense? (I'm not savvy with car/lease financing). My payment is just under $320/mo. I'd take that all day.

    I have a 2017 SR5 4x4. 3500 miles on it. If I could trade it today for a 2015, with less than 40k miles....I do it.

I live in the flat lands of Arkansas and it gear hunts constantly on the hwy. Zero lift, not even leveled. I have aftermarket wheels, and 265's. The dealership tells me I have the the update. This is my 4th Tacoma, and by far least ballsy truck I've ever driven. Sold my 2012 for this one. I regret it, but I'm holding on to it. Because life. And I'm not made of money to take a huge hit on trading a newish truck with 3500 miles. Just not a fan of the 3.5L.
