I would not go from a 4.0 to a 3.5, not yet anyway.

No way, the cost difference is way to much. Quit looking at the shiny new stuff and enjoy what you already have. Drive the truck into the ground and buy a new one in another 10+ years.

The OP never mentioned the equipment on the 17 either, maybe the one he was looking at has Premium and Tech Package, only he can answer if he has the cash to spend on a new vehicle.

Hey by the way, can someone tell me if I should go grab some Chinese food for lunch today or head to the Indian buffet? The cost is about $1 difference.

I like everything about my 2017 better over my 2014, except for the transmission hunting for gears on the highway. Everything else in better IMO.

He can and will lose on the trade. He'd essentially be resetting his loan and having to come up with $7k on the deal. Assuming he's in a 5 year loan at 3% with $28k financed he'd be on the hook for another $12k in debt service over sticking with the existing truck. I could think of a lot of things I'd rather spend $19,000 on which is what he loses by making the trade.

Just read all the problem threads in the 3rd gen section before giving up your reliable 2nd gen.

Upgrade? To a third gen from a 2015??? That's highly debatable.

I'd do it, but I can't live with the 2nd gen's interior. If the 2nd gen does what you want/need it to, there's no reason to spend the $7k. Chasing the latest and greatest is always financially devastating.

My 2014 has 29k on it and I don't see anything about the 3rd gen that makes me want to spend an extra $7k besides maybe having 29k less miles.

I appreciate your feedback everyone. The dealership dropped the price down now to $6400 for the "upgrade." The way I see it, when I brake, my steering wheel wobbles and my free 2 year maintenance just expired. The reason why I wouldn't mind upgrading is because the interior is much nicer and I do like the power sliding rear window. I have a cap and I keep three dogs in the back. It'd be nice to be able to open/close the rear window without having to reach for it (double cab). I also like the tailgate because I open/close it often. The 2017 also comes with bigger LCD screen (not that it matters much).

I see that some of you mentioned issues with the transmission but I wonder if this applies to manual as well? I usually tow about 4k lbs for work so that is one of the factors I am concerned about with the 3.5L.

Oh, one more thing, the longer I keep the 2015, the more $ I will lose if I wish to trade my vehicle in the future.

If you are worried about loosing money, the 2017 will depreciate more over the first year than your 2015 over its 3rd year. You are not really loosing anything, it is just the cost to own a vehicle and will happen to everything.

I don't know if this helps, but I just traded my 2015 TRD OR in for a 2017 TRD OR. The deciding factors were the MTS and Crawl Control as well as a some newer conveniences like navigation, sliding rear window, quieter cab, the pitch/roll indicator on the dash, better mpg, etc.

I did have to do a lot of negotiating and was prepared to walk out (because I already had a great truck!)...but in the end they paid off the remaining balance of my loan and put me in a 2017 for fair price and no money down. You can always try another dealer, someone is always willing to make a sale.
