Well, I'm probably not a good one to answer this, because mine was a mess; ended up taking 4 surgeries to finally get it fixed right - but, that said, it took probably about 6 months after to really feel normal again.

Best advise though; keep up with the exercises at home. Make them apart of your everyday routine from here on out.

Sorry you’re going through this. I wanna be positive and say “in no time”, but the reality is you’ll probably never be 100% normal, and get used to what your new “normal” feels like. Everyone is different though!

Mine was called a Bristol repair. Physio & rehab were extremely painful & frustrating at times but it all paid off in the end. Still haven’t destroyed it from Crazy Skiing. Be patient & keep at ‘er.

No Sir. Shoulders. It was so bad before that if I sneezed I’d blow both out. Got pretty good at puttin’ ‘em back in too, except for if it happened while sleeping. Then you’re pretty much immobile til someone comes along.

My wife has had three shoulder surgeries - she still has pain after 3 years sad to say. She ended up getting a Cortisone treatment among other things. It's been a painful road.

I had two Rotator cuff / slap repairs on my right shoulder within a two year period . Both were full circumference tears . Both of these surgeries took 6-9 months of PT

I personally do not think it will always be an issue.

I had rotator, impingement, and something else. Can’t remember. The worst was the section they shaved off my collarbone to open up the joint. It developed from heavy weightlifting. I did some short PT at the doctors office and finished the rest on my own. Resistance bands work wonders on strengthening the joint, stability, and range of motion.

Pre surgery I was incline benching 275 and behind the neck militarily pressing 175. Took about 6 months to get back, and I am at least over 40. (Age withheld) Daily activity never bothers me, getting up in the weights can bring on temporary pain.

I've had all three surgeries. Bicep tenodesis was 4-6 months about year to get full strength. rotator cuff full thickness tears and reconstructed AC joint again another 4-6 month. Still doing internal external exercises for rotator cuffs and light shoulder exercises . Continue your stretching and strengthening exercises. Thank goodness no more oxy that chit will stop you up.

Expect it to be at least a year and a half before you feel m9re "normal." Shoulder surgery is way more tricky and lengthy for recovery than a knee or hip. Just do what you're told, and if something feels off, tell your surgery, don't wait, no matter what it is. You're better off being a hypochondriac about it than ignoring things.

I ended up with reconstruction surgery. Torn rotator cuff, bicep tendon, and labrum. 2 were massive tears and one was completely torn… took 2 surgeries and 15 months or rehab. Takes a very long time. Be patient and consistent with your rehab. I went back to a job where I lifted up to 60 pounds and stacked 7 foot pallets. Shoulder did great. Does take a long time. Hang in there.

I’m waiting on surgery scheduled sometime in either March or April. Had this shoulder injury for over 2 years and in pain everyday. I’ll take 9 months of pain if I know there’s an end to it. Doc did 2 MRI’s no tears, but just pain everyday and can’t lift above shoulder height or reach up. Doc said the surgery is more exploratory in nature. Something like a subacromial decompression. Hang in there OP, sounds like it’s only a matter of time now.

I had a shoulder reconstruction many many years ago. Make sure to continue doing your exercises and therapy. What helped me the most and I highly recommend is to find a good physio or massage therapist the also has a specialization in myofascial release work. It can be very uncomfortable but is well worth it. It helped me get back to about 95% range of motion. FYI. My surgery was 6hrs, 10 screws etc. it was big. Good luck in your recovery.

OP did you ever fully recover? I had the same surgery 2/2/23 and my shoulder/bicep still hurt and I only have about 50 percent mobility. I've been in physical therapy for 6 weeks. Surgeon says about 8 more weeks of dull pain with intermittent sharp pain. Should be fully healed by August. Tough surgery for sure.
