It was an option that came with the shell. I've had it on less than a week, so far it's stowed my air compressor hose...and that's been on for less than a day. LOL.

I put a HF net in that same spot in mine too. I stash my sleeping pads up there. Have used it to hold a fan too, just to exhaust the shell when sleeping in it.

I always put my extra blankets and clothes up there when were camping. it also makes for a good drying rack for moist socks at the end of a good day. that net isn't exactly clipped in or anything. it relies on the weight of the stuff to keep the cords from falling off the washers.

Luggage on luggage on luggage. Took the kids (not mine) to a youth conference in NC last week and got to use the shell to its potential. I usually drive the luggage truck and have to use a tarp. I'm so glad those days are behind me. Was a little worried because the shell leaked a little in a downpour we had the week before leaving. There was a 70% rain on the day of departure, but we lucked out and only got a little rain close to our destination...and no leaks!

Pretty basic, but I keep my cap set up for dog training: crate, bumpers, holding blind, running mat, blind stakes, etc. I keep electronics and other stuff in the back seat. Use a couple bungee cords to keep the crate from moving around too much but a more secure option would be great.

I'd love to build a platform to get the crate up higher and more in line with the windows with a drawer system for storage, but it seems like once a week I have to haul something else around back there that requires pulling all the training gear out. Still looking for a good deal on a roof rack, I had no idea how expensive they could be.....

A trailer is alot easier, until you get into the woods without any turn around and you have to back up for who knows how far.

Thats true he didn't. There are times when its easier to load and unload a trailer, I have one myself, but most of the time its just easier to load it up in the back of the truck, especially if you have a shell, because most of the time after a long day you just don't feel like unloading the truck and you can just lock the shell and be done for day.

Yes a trailer would make life easier, but I don't have the storage space for one right now. I have access to to a couple nice dump trailers when I need to pick up a load of stone or move a rototiller, but the trailers are both a half hour drive away. So it's often easier to use the bed.

I mainly want the rack to transport a canoe for dog training. I have a flat back 12 foot canoe that fits nicely in the bed of the truck but it means I have to move the dog crate to the back seat. It's an ARE CX model which can accommodate a roof rack, but with the awful Canadian dollar right now it looks like a decent set up with Thule/Yakima will cost me about $600 taxes in.

I think you meant to quote @Cypherian, I was trying to explain why you may have not used a trailer, but it's all good. I try to my trailer as little as possible. I have a small trailer that I rarely use, I used it 1 day in the past 13 months. They are very handy when you need them, the rest of the time it just sits there.
When I bought my shell, it was used, it already had the Yakima tracks and cross bars installed on it. I had to buy a new key for them because the previous owner lost them. I haven't had to use the cross bars yet, and I probably never will, but they are sitting in my shed ready for use whenever I do need them. Maybe one day a used set will come up for sale close to you.

Looks like an aluminum contractor shell with tool box shelves. Most of the ones I have seen are made by ARE.

That picture was the inspiration for my lighting project on my Leer 100RCC.

With all the lights you have on the inside and the reflection it looks like the inside was aluminum. I forgot that Leer also made also made one that looked similar as well and it looks better than the ARE as well. IMO

This is my current set up now. I have rolling bins that go under the platform bed. Currently using tri-fold foam beds that fit perfectly for the gf and I.

Everything is removable within 2 minutes if I need the cargo space.
