i used my platform last October on a camping trip. crawing around the camper was painful so i flipped the platform upside down and traced diamond plated foam mats. easy to remove and reassemble if i need to use to bed to haul stuff.

What wood do you recommend and what kind of joins did you use?

i used sanded plywood from HD. 3/4" and 1/2". butt joints with glue and screws. easy to build. hardest part is scribing the side contours. (optional). good luck with the build.

Some progress since my last post.

Hinged the center panels so one half can be folded back or lifted to load underneath.

Next up, cut some doors in and add carpet.

Not sure if it was someone in here or the other shell thread but I was asked how I attached my lights to my shell. I used the double side tape and hot glue gun. My shell is carpet on the inside so not sure if it will would on the bear shell, but this works really well. I laid it not straight on one part and i had give it a good pull to get it off.

It’s just the cargo net out of my wife’s new rav4. I stole it and zip tied it to the bar. I use the bar to stop crap rolling around. Being lifted and me short it turns in to a pain. Then I can put smaller stuff in the net.the other bar stops my box of tools and recovery stuff from moving

Just finished my milk crate "floor" last week. Usually I've also got 20lb propane tank, gas firepit, Home Depot Bucket Loo, Tool Box, ARB Awning Room, Buddy Heater...

Milk Crates have lights, 1lb propane bottles, everything to cook with, toiletries, couple tiny folding chairs and whatever else I can't think of. Probably need to get through and organize those!

Added better lighting and power to the back. Ran 6 AWG from the battery to the bed. Installed a fuse panel in the cubby and a breaker under the hood (wrapping the mount for the breaker later this week then I'll be official done with this project).

Used double sided Velcro to cover the wires on the headliner and the LED strips are attached with adhesive backed Velcro tape.

This pic was taken at midnight in a dark driveway when I was testing the light output. It's like daylight back there now.
    BFDB448A-61EB-43D5-848B-4F5C725104FE.jpg

Testing before installing. Added a USB3.0 charger with volt/amp meter and a 12v plug...both wired to the red switch. The switch on the top right controls the LED lighting. I'll add another 12v plug that'll be always hot for a fridge when that time comes (this will all be powered off a second battery at some point too).

Alright, my platform is all done and carpeted, and I made some curtains to go on the windows for privacy and to block some sunlight. They are hung using heavy duty Velcro so I can tear them off when I’m not sleeping back there.

Do you have a front window in your canopy? If not what gasket/seal did you use to seal to the rear cab window?

Dang, I was hoping to find a reputable brand to replace the non-folding or sliding window in my Range Rider cap for when I have the farm dogs with me or camping.
I'll poke about he local shop to see what they say.
    Thanks a bunch!

My RTT dreams were interrupted at 3:30am when the wind kicked up and I had to turn around so my feet were hanging out instead of my head but it was nice looking at the stars as I was falling asleep.

True true...can't complain about camping 2 weekends in a row. It'll be nice when the RTT arrives and I don't have to pull out the cooler, fuel, and bins to make room to sleep when I don't feel like setting up the ground tent.
