I've slept in RTT's & in truck campers. RTT's suck. The wind whips their ass in very little wind, climbing up & down in the middle of the night, having to fold them up & unfold them, minuscule space & the list goes on. I wanted one until I stayed in one. Now I'll never own one.

I really like your setup! Is there a writeup on how you went about building this?

I'm new here, thought I would post a picture of my setup. I'll try to get better and more detailed pictures soon.

looks quite serviceable. could I assume the bunk slides to bridge the center for sleeping? like the cap clamps covered and out of sight.

I am ready to remove my platform. Getting in and out through the small walk-in door is a pain with the platform. That makes sleeping in the back much less enjoyable. Gonna move 'stuff' from the back to the cab to sleep.
The height of the platform made storage great, but .....

Thanks! I actually don't know what the brand is, doesn't say anywhere on it and I bought it on Craigslist.
Yeah there is a long piece that serves as a back-rest when it's set up like shown as a bench that can go between for sleeping.

So it’ll be my first time camping in the back of my truck since I got a shell recently.. and it’s supposed to rain all weekend. You guys have any suggestions on some kind of tarp or cover I could buy that would let me stand at the tailgate to cook food and not get soaked?

I think you want a pop up canopy.
There are a bunch of options ranging from light to heavy. I have one of the original EZ-Ups and it is on it's last leg.
I used one of the new Coleman models recently and was impressed by how easy it was to set up and take down with one person.

Here's what I do but for a sun cover, you could do a similar thing but with a tarp and have sides on any that need extra protection

The poles are just telescopic cleaning poles like for mops (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Unger-8...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-203177326-_-203177325-_-N), with the tapestry attached to a PVC pipe with two holes on the end for the poles to stick in to. I attach it to the back window with simple clamps.
