    Yep. I posted near the beginning of this thread with a link to the law. It's written into the law that pickups have to pay commercial weight fees. The only exception is a pickup with a shell on it. The caveat is you cannot drive with the shell off and it must be permanently mounted (no J hooks).

    It used to be clearer. Now it seems it's implied.

    When the camper is temporarily attached, it's considered a load and still subject to commercial fees:

    Section 471 states that a pickup is officially designated as a vehicle with an open bed. If you have a shell on it permanently mounted (no J hooks into the rails, etc), it's no longer an open bed:

    I also went with the 100R from Leer. I added the rack mounts/ slider from factory. 100 bucks well worth it! All lifetime warranty too...
